Tainan Rural "No Rice, No Joy" — Experience Rice Culture While Having Fun

The Tainan City No Rice, No Joy Rice Promotion Association held the "2017 No Rice, No Joy Golden Joy Rice" Creative Rice Cuisine Competition and Harvesting Experience Event on June 24. With a theme centered on healthy, nutritious, and delicious creative rice dishes, the event also provided contestants with opportunities to observe and learn from one another, improve their culinary skills, and spread great flavors. Through the harvesting experience activity, participants explored the life cycle of rice—from breeding, seedlings, rice grains, husks, broken rice, brown rice, rice bran, broken grains, to white rice—learning about the various by-products and gaining a deeper understanding of the journey of rice.

The competition was divided into social and school categories, with ten teams allowed per group, each consisting of two members. On the day of the event, June 24, in addition to the exciting competitions, there were various performances including dance, electronic music "San Tai Zi," heaven-worshipping prayers, rice harvesting experiences, tasting and scoring sessions, as well as musical performances.

The event site collaborated with Houpi Rice Mill to showcase high-quality rice and rice-based foods, along with promotions of rice snacks such as rice bowl offerings, nine-layer cakes, rice ball dumplings, and rice soy milk. Those interested in rice culture and rice-based cuisine can experience the charm of rural life and rice at the event.

 
Houpi in Tainan is a prime rice-producing area and an important rice granary in Taiwan. As the number of rice consumers and consumption continues to decline, the Good Rice Promotion Campaign aims to encourage more people to enjoy high-quality rice.
