As a youngster, did you ever dream of embarking on a reckless, spur-of-the-moment adventure—whether trekking across Antarctica to experience the awe-inspiring thrill of the world’s most magical landscapes, or scaling perilous cliffs to defy gravity and revel in the triumph of standing atop a peak? In youth, it seems everyone is an adventurer, brimming with the courage and passion to challenge the world. Understanding humanity's outdoor dreams of exploring the unknown and pushing personal limits, for 36 years The North Face® has partnered with GORE-TEX® brand to launch numerous classic outdoor products. These have accompanied countless dreamers—the "adventurers"—on their journeys to explore the unknown, discover nature, and test their limits. Together, they’ve scaled treacherous peaks, forded raging rivers, and touched every inch of uncharted land. Over time, they’ve grown together, supported one another, and moved forward as one.

In September 2013, continuing its enduring support for adventurers and helping more outdoor professionals and enthusiasts realize their adventure dreams, The North Face® partnered with GORE-TEX® brand to launch the new Triclimate™ "3-in-1" jacket. This product integrates its three-in-one design with cutting-edge technology, offering waterproofing, moisture-wicking, and durability in one, capable of handling unpredictable weather and enabling adventurers to take on outdoor activities of varying intensity. The launch of the Triclimate™ "3-in-1" jacket also sparked collective memories among outdoor enthusiasts of the classic outdoor products created through the collaboration between The North Face® and GORE-TEX® brand.

The new Triclimate™ "3-in-1" jacket launched by The North Face® in partnership with GORE-TEX® brand

The first instance of companionship and protection between The North Face® and GORE-TEX® brand for "adventurers" dates back to 1977. That year, the two brands collaborated for the first time, applying then-new fabric technology to outerwear, significantly enhancing the performance of jackets. Over the following 36 years, their familiar and reassuring presence could be seen wherever adventurers explored nature and challenged their limits. In the 1980s, the footsteps of adventurers grew ever more frequent. In May 1984, Liu Yutian abandoned everything to hike the Great Wall, becoming the first person in the world to complete the journey on foot after over a year of grueling trekking. "China’s Thomas," Yu Chunshun, began his "solo trek across China" on July 1, 1988. Li Lesi, the first to propose the concept of "the power of white," summited Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, in 1987... It was also in the 1980s that, to provide adventurers with more specialized protection, the two brands focused on adventure-themed collaborations, launching a series of memorable outdoor apparel including ski jackets and mountaineering gear. Among them, in 1989, The North Face® and GORE-TEX® brand jointly dispatched an international team of hardy individuals undaunted by harsh weather. The team included Will Steger, Jean-Louis Étienne, Victor Boyarsky, Geoff Somers, Keizo Funatsu, and Qin Dahe. They became the first to traverse 6,500 kilometers across the world’s coldest continent, Antarctica, relying solely on dog sleds—a seven-month journey. The signature commemorative jacket series was an instant hit among outdoor enthusiasts worldwide upon its release.

Understanding humanity’s dream of reaching new heights, in the 21st century The North Face® and GORE-TEX® brand once again joined forces to launch a line of summit series products driven by high technology, becoming a trusted "ally" for outdoor enthusiasts daring to push upward. In 2005, the Summit Series™ featured an outer layer made from WINDSTOPPER® Insulation Shell high-tech fabric, incorporating top global technologies and undergoing real-world testing by elite international mountaineers during expeditions to high-altitude snow mountains around the world. In 2007, The North Face® Cipher WINDSTOPPER® Jacket won the 2007 "Gear of the Year" award from North American OUTSIDE magazine.

Beloved GORE-TEX® fabric The North Face® outdoor gear

Since The North Face® and GORE-TEX® brand first "protected" adventurers on their daring journeys back in 1977, over 36 years their collaborative outdoor products have become classics, forged through the trials of harsh natural conditions. Whether it’s alpine skiing, treacherous peak climbing, or polar expeditions, under the enduring companionship of The North Face® and GORE-TEX® brand, countless ambitious adventurers have left their aspirations, passion, and footprints in every challenging corner of the world. Time passes, and those headstrong youthful days eventually fade. Today, perhaps the years have etched lines on our foreheads, or life’s pressures have buried our ambition and fervor—but whenever we revisit those thrilling adventures or pull out that jacket, perhaps no longer brand new, those moments of challenging ourselves and defying the unknown and nature can still bring a smile to your face, making you feel young again for just a moment.

Tips:

The new Triclimate™ 3-in-1 jacket from The North Face® combines the performance of multiple outdoor gear pieces, making it versatile and high-performing for wear in various climates. Its durable, windproof, waterproof, and breathable GORE-TEX® fabric shell and the Apex ClimateBlock™ liner independently developed by The North Face® can be mixed and matched according to changing weather. In cold, wet seasons, wear the shell and liner together for optimal warmth and protection; in damp but relatively mild weather, wear just the shell; and in cool, dry conditions, opt for the zip-out, detachable liner alone.

The plain-weave 2L GORE-TEX® Performance Shell fabric delivers exceptional waterproofing, windproofing, and breathability; creative details like underarm zippers enhance the jacket’s overall ventilation; while the adjustable, detachable hood effectively protects the lower half of the face. Additional features such as zippered hand pockets with flaps, an adjustable drawcord hem, plastic cuff tabs, and a built-in audio pocket complement thoughtful design elements like a front zipper with a wind flap, Velcro®-style storm flap, and adjustable cuffs. These ensure freedom of movement and superior performance whether you’re hiking or mountaineering.
