The area around Ximen MRT Station is a bustling and trendy commercial district, packed with shops as well as cinemas, KTVs, and other venues. As one of the earlier developed areas, it also boasts many distinctive buildings that are popular tourist attractions for foreigners, and of course, there’s no shortage of delicious food. This extremely over-the-top nigiri sushi shop located on the edge of the Ximending shopping district is one of the must-eat spots for Korean travelers visiting Taiwan—today, let’s dig in together with our readers and the editor (Jingbian)!

Sammi Shokudo’s insanely over-the-top nigiri sushi.

Sammi Shokudo is located on Guiyang Street, on the outer edge of the Ximending shopping district, and is famous for its super huge salmon sashimi nigiri. It’s so renowned that many independent Japanese and Korean tourists specifically include it on their list of must-try dishes when visiting Taiwan.

Crazy big salmon sashimi nigiri.

The salmon sashimi nigiri at Sammi Shokudo is genuinely enormous. The photo might not do it justice, but trust the editor when we say—it’s really, really big. The thickness is just right, and when paired with the vinegared rice, it’s incredibly satisfying. But it really is huge, and you’ll basically need three bites to finish a single piece.

Sashimi squid + fish nigiri (large portion).

As soon as the dishes arrived, the editor regretted underestimating the portion sizes—but the freshness of the seafood was undeniable. The squid nigiri was super crispy, while the salmon just melted in your mouth, leaving you completely satisfied. Travelers are advised to get half portions of both the salmon and the squid.

Chicken karaage.

And then there’s this chicken karaage—the editor has to give it praise. For 160 NT, the portion size is absolutely unbeatable. The restaurant even provides lemon for diners to squeeze on top. The flavor is perfectly savory, with a texture that’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, fried to absolute perfection. Plus, the sweet juices of the chicken are fully locked in. Highly recommend this dish.
