The 2020 Taipei Lantern Festival has two main exhibition areas—Nangang and Ximen—and the closing “Street Parade” event will be held at 4:30 PM on February 16, the final day of the festival, in Nangang under the theme “Spinning Through Taipei Grand Parade,” with super-cute Pikachu also joining the parade performance.

The “Street Parade,” a key highlight of the Taipei Lantern Festival for three years, is being held in Nangang for the first time this year, further boosting Nangang’s visibility. Local businesses and professional performance troupes participating in the parade have also given strong support. The ultra-popular Pikachu, loved by both adults and children, has already arrived in Taipei early and is ready to light up the scene with its electrifying cuteness.

This year’s grand parade participants—including street dance, acrobatics, traditional parade troupes, Taiwanese opera, and theme parks—also made their first appearances. The parade kicks off at 4:30 PM on the day along Nangang Road, starting from Nangang Industrial High School and proceeding to the Taipei Music Center. On-site performances include a 12-zodiac dance show led by Bear Chang, FOCA Taiwan Circus, Wu Du You Ou Theater Troupe, and Art Taiwan Troupe.

Immediately following the parade at 6:30 PM, an outdoor concert will be held at the Taipei Music Center’s outdoor plaza, headlined by the band “Eggplant Egg” (Qiezi Dan), winners of the Best Taiwanese Album and Best New Artist at the 29th Golden Melody Awards in 2018, bringing the energy and rock vibe of East District Nangang to life.

In response to the novel coronavirus outbreak, visitors are reminded to wear masks, pay attention to hand hygiene, and wash hands frequently. During the lantern festival and the grand parade, all staff have been confirmed to be healthy and equipped with appropriate epidemic prevention supplies to ensure public safety. Those showing respiratory symptoms are advised not to attend large-scale events such as the lantern festival. The Taipei Tourism Network will provide a full live broadcast on its Facebook fan page, allowing everyone to enjoy the parade from home.
