In reds, blues, oranges, greens, and pinks, patterned umbrellas sway gently in the breeze against the winter blue sky of Kaohsiung, reminiscent of the quaint town of Agueda in Portugal, transforming the Houyi commercial district into a fairytale-like wonderland where it’s hard to tear your eyes away upon arriving at Anning Street. Shop owners in the area joke, “Well, no matter the color, everyone can make peace here.”

Appreciating beauty is a universal language, and the vibrant umbrellas hang along the entire length of Anning Street, with at least 2,000 beautifully blooming umbrellas in just 500 meters.

Houyi Commercial District is the largest garment retail and wholesale hub in southern Taiwan, mainly offering wholesale goods such as men's and women's wear, children's clothing, leather goods, and accessories, often bustling with activity in the afternoon.

Around 7 p.m., as shops close for the day and the noise of traffic and crowds fades, the street enters a tranquil and cozy moment. The umbrellas under the night sky, accented by LED string lights, twinkle one by one, showcasing a different kind of beauty from the daytime. Strolling slowly along the street allows you to fully immerse yourself in the dreamy atmosphere.

When it comes to photography techniques, simply crouching down and shooting upwards from a lower angle in the same scene can reveal a whole new perspective—and this trick works perfectly on Umbrella Street too.
