Aman has announced the opening of its fourth property in Japan — Aman Niseko. Situated in Hokkaido’s Niseko region, a year-round holiday destination, within a native ecological preserve on Mt. Yotei, it is expected to open in 2023.

Spanning 187 hectares, Aman Niseko offers 30 guest rooms, comprehensive wellness and fitness facilities, multiple dining venues, as well as residential units, providing an all-season holiday experience.

The Niseko region is world-renowned for its abundant snowfall, wide powder runs, and endless high-quality powder snow. Summers are equally captivating, with mild and pleasant climates that provide the ideal setting for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and river rafting. For centuries, the majestic mountains, lush forests, and pristine streams have drawn artists and poets seeking inspiration.

Moreover, the unique Japanese tradition of hot spring bathing, the heritage of the indigenous Ainu people, and the region’s celebrated cuisine are must-experience cultural highlights. Aman Niseko is enveloped in the fresh ambiance of nature, adjacent to five main areas — Mt. Yotei, Hirafu, Niseko Village, Annupuri, and Niseko Garden — all offering restaurants, museums, and entertainment facilities.

The resort’s design pays homage to traditional Japanese ryokan, with every angle in the guest rooms and refined residences offering views of the surrounding forests and mountains. Each residence features an open fireplace, private onsen bath, and spa facilities. From the terrace, one can gaze upon dense forests and undulating mountain ranges. Inside, interiors dominated by natural wood exude a warm and tranquil atmosphere rooted in nature.

The resort was designed by Kerry Hill Architects, reflecting a harmonious interaction with the surrounding natural and cultural environment. The firm also designed Aman’s other three Japanese properties: Aman Tokyo, Aman Kyoto, and Amanemu. The spatial design of the resort features a fluid linear layout, drawing the outdoor natural scenery into indoor spaces through floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors, while feature walls reflect the changes of time and seasons throughout the day.

As Japan’s first fully integrated spa wellness resort, Aman Niseko provides a rich and comprehensive mindfulness experience that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit of its guests. Personalized wellness programs are tailored to individual needs, offering Japanese and European spa and healing techniques, fitness and meditation activities, as well as delicious and healthy organic cuisine.

The Aman Spa features single and double treatment rooms, pre-treatment lounges, relaxation pods, and a variety of thermal facilities including Finnish sauna, Watsu therapy room, cold plunge pool, steam room, Turkish bath, experiential showers, and onsen baths. A small indoor pool and hydrotherapy pool overlook the outdoor terrace with forest and mountain views. The expansive spa lounge leads directly to a boutique and spa tea room.

The resort will also house a range of dining facilities, making this all-season mountain retreat an unmissable culinary destination. In addition to Aman’s global dining brands — the Japanese restaurant Nama and the Italian restaurant Arva — the resort will feature several restaurants serving seasonal dishes, offering hearty international cuisine ideal for winter and light, creative fare perfect for summer.

The two-story children’s club includes a reception area, healthy dining zone, and matcha bar, indoor playground, bowling alley, gaming area, theater, half basketball court, indoor pool, and children’s splash pool, male and female changing rooms, as well as a spacious outdoor terrace. The center will also offer play areas for toddlers and nap rooms. Experienced staff are always on hand to provide attentive care and fun activities for young guests of all ages.

Aman Niseko will offer only 31 residences, giving residents the opportunity to live within a carefully curated community and enjoy the Aman lifestyle alongside Hokkaido’s breathtaking natural scenery. Furthermore, all residences are built within a mountain nature preserve, marking the first community of its kind in Japan.

The residences are standalone two-story structures located on forested slopes, overlooking the spectacular view of Mt. Yotei, and embody the same serene aesthetic as the resort. Interiors can be customized according to guests’ personal preferences. Facilities such as home theaters, massage rooms, wine cellars, and cigar rooms can be added as needed. Each residence includes two floors and a loft-style mezzanine, featuring three bedrooms, each with private en-suite bathrooms, as well as private indoor and outdoor onsen baths, spacious entertainment and leisure areas, a staff room, indoor garage, dedicated ski storage, and ample storage space.

On the serene and picturesque Mt. Yotei on the western side of Mt. Annupuri in Niseko, Aman is set to unveil yet another private, peaceful sanctuary for body and mind rejuvenation.
