At the ISPO BEIJING 2014 ON SNOW DEMO and 14-15 Ski Gear New Product Experience event held on February 23-24 at Hebei’s Wanlong Ski Resort, Black Diamond? (BD), a leading U.S. manufacturer of climbing, skiing, and technical gear, showcased a variety of backcountry skiing products and snow safety equipment.
The event attracted numerous skiing enthusiasts eager to be among the first to try out the gear.
Black Diamond? designs equipment to tackle the challenges of wilderness terrain, freeing skiers from the confines of groomed trails and enabling them to explore beyond the boundaries. Their ski offerings are divided into the freeride backcountry series, geared for downhill performance, and the lightweight touring series for uphill skiing. During this SNOW DEMO event, BD introduced a range of skis tailored to different uses, including freeride backcountry boards, freetour backcountry touring boards, and touring boards. As domestic skiing grows in popularity and enthusiasts improve their skills, more are venturing off-trail, into the woods, up mountains, and chasing powder — BD’s ski lineup is perfectly aligned with their needs. The performance of BD skis, including torsional rigidity, excellent balance during turns, the ability to handle diverse snow conditions across various terrains, and overall weight, was widely praised by both skiing enthusiasts and professionals.

BD’s snow products are not limited to skis. From skis and boots to skins, poles, backpacks, and snow safety gear... At the SNOW DEMO event, Black Diamond? displayed its full range of snow safety equipment. Snow safety gear is essential for backcountry skiing and mountaineering. In 2014, BD launched a revolutionary avalanche protection product — the JetForce tech airbag backpack with jet propulsion inflation. It is the world’s first and currently the only avalanche airbag backpack that uses a battery and fan system. Developed over several years by Black Diamond? in collaboration with its snow safety brand PIEPS, it features advanced self-check systems, four uses per charge, automatic deflation three minutes after inflation, and continued functionality even with small punctures in the airbag. These groundbreaking features give JetForce unmatched advantages over traditional compressed air airbags.

Snow safety equipment also includes shovels, probes, and avalanche airbags. Avalanches are a real and ever-present danger in backcountry skiing and alpine mountaineering. Since its founding, snow safety gear has been an integral part of Black Diamond?’s offerings. The 2014 lineup of new snow safety gear, along with a new range of ski gloves and poles, were also showcased at the SNOW DEMO event.
At the SNOW DEMO gala dinner, Zhao Kai, Vice President of Shenzhen Himalaya (BD’s agent in China), gave skiing enthusiasts and professionals a detailed explanation of the working principles of the JetForce tech airbag backpack.
