“Setting out with dreams and moving forward towards challenges” — the launch of the first Chinese cycling expedition to the Earth’s Three Poles
On the afternoon of July 30, 2014, the “Cycling the Earth’s Three Poles” event held a press conference in Shanghai. This cycling initiative, independently launched by six Chinese individuals, attracted widespread attention from the media and various sectors with its rare and exciting itinerary.
On July 31, an RV loaded with six “battle bikes” departed from Shanghai heading to Xining, marking the beginning of the Cycling the Earth’s Three Poles journey. The first stage of the ride is expected to start on August 3.
About the Earth’s Three Poles:
The North and South Poles, with their harsh natural conditions, are destinations many explorers dream of conquering. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with its towering snow-capped peaks and continuous glaciers, is the highest plateau in the world, with an average altitude of over4000meters and an average temperature below0°C. Such cold climates and the resulting natural phenomena are comparable only to those found at the Earth’s two poles. Its extreme natural conditions (low temperatures and thin oxygen) have earned it the title of one of the Earth’s Three Poles, alongside the Antarctic and Arctic.
About the “Cycling the Earth’s Three Poles” Event:
These six outdoor mountain biking enthusiasts and outdoor sports fanatics will embark on a particularly unique journey. They aim not only to challenge themselves by reaching the three poles of the Earth by bicycle but also to take part in various outdoor activities along the way, completing a grand outdoor adventure spanning from Tibet to the Arctic and then to the Antarctic. The entire journey is expected to last six months.
The team members will document everyone's condition and the full journey daily through videos and photos. This will be the first time that video recordings are used to showcase Chinese outdoor enthusiasts “cycling to the Earth’s Three Poles,” reflecting their spirit of positivity, exploration, courage in action and pursuit of dreams, as well as their immersive experience of the beauty and freedom of the outdoor world. It is a visual documentary project.
Outdoor enthusiasts will experience the unique and breathtakingly rugged beauty of the Earth’s Three Poles through mountain biking and a variety of outdoor activities. Along the way, they will face both hardships and surprises, pain and joy.
Will they succeed? We look forward to the release of this amazing journey and the outdoor experience film.
