2014 First China Highway Music Festival? Dunhuang Desert Music Festival

With the launch of the 2013 large-scale documentary “Music Road Trip,” six diverse musical groups traveled six routes across mainland China, covering a total distance of over 20,000 kilometers. This marked the first-ever creation of a “singing on the road” lifestyle. Now, the 2014 First China Highway Music Festival? Dunhuang Desert Music Festival makes its grand debut, once again pioneering a new way to experience the “spirit of the road” through music. This will be a new way of musical life that will influence you for a lifetime!!

    An unprecedented music festival theme!!
The “2014 First China Highway Music Festival? Dunhuang Desert Music Festival” is China’s first and most influential large-scale highway music festival, featuring free travel, self-driving road trips, outdoor music gatherings, outdoor camping events, and the only national music festival set against a desert backdrop.

    A highly meaningful gathering format

From multiple provinces and cities across the country, along various routes, tens of thousands of cars, motorcycles, RVs, and bicycles, along with dozens of bands and artists, travel together with the convoy. Over half a month, they share everything along the way in their most authentic state through their own musical expressions—this is a musical lifestyle beyond your imagination and beyond what you’ve ever seen!! Massive crowds and a sea of vehicles converge on the desert music festival, forming a powerful lineup. This festival is more than just a three-day “gathering”—it will be a celebration of your life’s journey.

    An incredibly enticing open venue
The vast and mysterious Dunhuang Ancient City was once the seat of the Han Dynasty’s Dunhuang Commandery, located in the heart of the oasis along the middle and lower reaches of the Dang River. Established as Shazhou in the Tang Dynasty, Shazhou Lu in the Yuan Dynasty, and Shazhou Wei in the Ming Dynasty, its site has remained continuous, with architecture exuding a strong Western Region flair. The city features three gates—east, west, and south—and towering gate towers that have never been relocated.

    An extremely diverse musical lineup
Rock musicians traveling with the convoy arrive in Dunhuang to take the stage. From emerging rock acts to veteran powerhouses; from kings of folk to bands representing various regions; the experiences of a half-month journey will bring the most “extraordinary” sounds and unprecedented performance energy!!
You may have seen their performances before, but you’ve never felt such a passion for revelry on the road!!

China’s first music festival set against a real desert backdrop
Highway Voice Stage (top musicians, bands, indie artists, mobile classroom performance showcases)
Freedom Dreams Stage (featuring independent musicians, folk music, and fan-created music)
A music stage seamlessly integrated with the Dunhuang Ancient City and the vast desert creates a dreamlike setting. Unique audience seating in motorcycle formations and RV campsites offer the coolest way to experience a real mirage.

The most insane level of full participation
Want to party with top musicians, bands, independent artists, and folk ensembles?
Nearly 20 groups of musicians traveling with their convoys represent some of the highest-level original talent in contemporary China. Along the journey, they will interact, collaborate, and improvise with local musicians and folk artists, filling the trip with surprises and unpredictable moments. Join in to enjoy a variety of fresh musical experiences and feel the true power of music. This is the most authentic showcase of the current state of original music in modern China.
