During the National Day golden week, the “visual feast” of the Shanghai Tourism Festival — the annual Shanghai International Music Fireworks Festival (hereinafter referred to as the “Shanghai Fireworks Festival”) — will once again light up brilliantly in Pudong Century Park. This year’s Shanghai Fireworks Festival has been comprehensively “upgraded,” featuring not only a dazzling display of lasers, fireworks, music, and 3D effects, but also a competition between top domestic and international fireworks “champion teams.” There will also be “World War,” “Boats in the Sky,” “Fireworks from a Crane”… It’s an unmissable highlight for those visiting Shanghai during the National Day holiday.

Established in 2000, the Shanghai Fireworks Festival has been successfully held for fourteen editions to date. It pioneered the tradition of hosting an international music fireworks festival in Asia and has been praised by China’s National Tourism Administration as “one of China’s most dazzling festival events.” Going to Century Park to watch fireworks on National Day has become a “beautiful tradition” for both Shanghai residents and tourists from elsewhere.

To allow more Shanghai residents and visitors to enjoy the grandeur of the Shanghai Fireworks Festival during the National Day holiday, the ticket prices have been adjusted: the price for standing tickets remains 70 yuan, while the seat tickets, previously 260 yuan, have been reduced to 230 yuan. One adult can bring one child under 1.3 meters for free. This year’s performances will take place on the evenings of September 30, October 3, and October 6 from 19:30 to 20:30. Tickets can be purchased by calling 021-58335621 or 38760588.

Shanghai Fireworks Festival: Four Major “Upgrades” Bring Spectacular Highlights

Champion Teams Face Off: This National Day, the six musical fireworks shows at the Shanghai Fireworks Festival are being dubbed the “dream team of fireworks” — all teams are previous first or second-place winners in past Shanghai Fireworks Festivals, hailing from France, Belgium, Greece, and China. The six teams will showcase their signature skills in an international “clash of titans” within the world of fireworks. It’s set to be a major highlight of the 2014 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

Lasers and 3D Add Magic: This year, high technology brings lasers and 3D effects together with fireworks for the first time. The “mesmerizing blend of light and shadow, real yet surreal” will captivate audiences — a must-see for visitors traveling to Shanghai.

19 Launch Sites “Bloom Everywhere”: The number of water-based fireworks launch sites this year will increase from 7 to 19. The entire lake area will present a spectacular scene of “blooming everywhere,” illuminating the night sky of the 2014 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

Fireworks Soaring 20 Stories High: This year, the height of the fireworks display will rise from around 20 meters to 50 meters — nearly the height of a 20-story building — creating a three-dimensional fireworks marvel that “rises from the water to the sky.”

This National Day: Global Skills Showcase “Miraculous” Fireworks

Lasers, 3D, and the “Dance of Fireworks” (September 30): The first half features France’s special performance “Tales of Water,” where fireworks depict the various forms of water in a soft and romantic display. The second half is China’s special “Dance of Fireworks,” where colorful fireworks “dance” to the music under the guidance of lasers. Additionally, “3D Tower Fireworks” created through combinations of dot, line, and surface effects will present a cinematic spectacle of light and shadow, jointly illuminating the National Day night sky.

“Red Poppies” Bloom in the Sky (October 3): The first half presents Belgium’s special “War and Peace,” themed around the world-renowned World War I poem “In Flanders Fields.” A grand symphony sets the mood of gunfire and battle, while fireworks bloom like blood-red poppies, drifting in the wind with a powerful impact. The second half is China’s special “Ode to the Yellow River,” where waterfall-like fireworks, colorful flower bouquets, and ceremonial shells intertwine, resembling the mighty Yellow River flowing from the heavens — majestic and spectacular, making it a highlight of this year’s Shanghai Tourism Festival.

“Titanic” Sails the Sky (October 6): The first half is Greece’s special “Musical Life,” where elegant opera, passionate rock, and romantic jazz harmonize with fireworks to deliver an audiovisual extravaganza. The second half is China’s special “My Heart Will Go On,” featuring a finale full of wonders. First, “Fireworks from a Crane” breaks the conventional upward-only limitation of fireworks, creating a three-dimensional effect of bursts in all directions. Then, countless “silver flash heart lamps” twinkle like stars in the sky, and a “fireworks ship” built entirely of fireworks — shaped like the Titanic — slowly “sails” across the deep blue night sky, as if moving on the ocean, leaving spectators in awe.
