The “Road of Discovery · Getu Adventure—Global MBA EMBA Jungle Crossing Challenge,” organized by Ziyun Miao and Buyi Autonomous County in Guizhou Province, co-hosted by Guizhou Getu Tourism Development Co., Ltd. and the EMBA Outdoor Sports Alliance of Business Schools, produced by Qianbaidu Communication Agency, supported by the Ziyun Getu River Cave Scenic Area Management Office, and exclusively operated by Meiye Sports, is a large-scale outdoor sports event integrating inspiration, challenge, public welfare, and personal growth. Open to EMBA students from business schools worldwide, the event runs from September 17 to September 20, spanning four days.
On the first day of the competition, the opening drumbeat of the first phase was sounded. Elite EMBA participants and star experience contestants from institutions such as Renmin University of China Business School, Fudan University School of Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Antai College of Economics and Management, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China Business School, University of Washington (USA), Hunan University School of Business Administration, CEIBS, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School, Xiamen University Business School, National University of Singapore Business School, Northwestern University Business School, Guizhou University School of Management, and University of International Business and Economics International Business School, along with local amateur teams, took part. Amid the distinctive ethnic send-off ceremony by villagers from a local Miao village, the EMBA elites set off from the Huapo Camping Site at the Getu River in Ziyun Autonomous County, officially embarking on their journey. The first leg covered a total of 27 kilometers, including 24 kilometers from the starting point to Huangjiawan. This section featured complex terrain, where contestants traversed grasslands, crossed rivers, and sprinted toward the finish line at Xiabyi.
After intense competition, the “Fudan Team” from Fudan University School of Management won the championship of the first leg. The “Sister Team” from Renmin University of China Business School came in second, while the “Angry Beans Team,” representing an alliance of business schools including the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China Business School and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Antai College of Economics and Management, secured third place.
Participating EMBA contestants shared that although they faced numerous challenges and the continuous rain added difficulty, the environment—with paths through mountains and streams beneath them—epitomized the essence of the challenge. Along the way, they were accompanied by Getu River’s beautiful pastoral scenery and ingenious natural surroundings. Finishing the race in such an unforgettable setting was also a form of enjoyment. In the end, they expressed their determination to complete all four stages alongside the main contestants and finish the jungle challenge.
Among the most anticipated participants were celebrity entrepreneur Ms. Zeng Hua, General Manager of Skyla Outdoor, renowned actress Jin Yuting, and famous action actor, director, martial arts director, and “Brother Seven” Xiong Xinxin.
For the first-time challenger, the event took place amid heavy rain. Walking on slippery rural paths, narrow roads, uneven surfaces filled with puddles, and surrounded by overgrown weeds, the harsh weather conditions made it difficult for the famous Hong Kong action actor Xiong Xinxin to adapt. He injured his knee shortly after the start. By the time he limped to Huangjiawan, his pain drew concern from everyone. However, in response to their worries, he repeatedly said, “I’m fine, I can do it.” When interviewed by reporters, he even cheerfully remarked, “This stage has good roads, good weather, and good food.” His positive attitude and humorous responses energized the staff present, making the hardships of the race seem to vanish.
Renowned actress Jin Yuting stated that her decision to participate in the jungle challenge in Ziyun was mainly to connect with nature through the platform of national MBA EMBA programs. Having long been accustomed to urban life, she had inadvertently developed a somewhat pampered and fragile personality. These negative emotions became especially pronounced during the challenging race in a harsh environment, making it a great opportunity for self-challenge and self-breakthrough. At the same time, being able to enjoy pristine pastoral landscapes and the unique natural scenery of rugged peaks during the race, and interacting with the simple and hospitable villagers, prompted her to reflect. Despite having modern conveniences, urban life had become overly simplified and standardized, causing her to lose touch with her inner self. The fresh and natural environment of Getu River in Ziyun could reawaken numbed souls and help rediscover vitality in nature. Finally, she hoped to use this challenge as a personal example to send a message to the public: outdoor sports are not just about the race—they offer profound experiences. She encouraged more people to participate, explore nature, discover themselves, and elevate their inner worlds.
In addition, the experience team composed of media outlets such as Sina Outdoor, Channel V, Men’s Health, Outdoors, Runner’s World, and Outdoor Gear also performed admirably, easily completing the first day of the race.
While challenging their own limits, the organizing committee hopes participants will also carry a heart full of compassion and bring hope to the local community. This “Champions’ Path” is a crystallization of the love and dedication of all participants. It not only serves as the best testament to this adventure but also brings infinite possibilities for the future of Ziyun, Guizhou.
