A leading domestic outdoor brand, Explorer, has officially entered the smart wearable industry. On September 19, it launched the world’s only optical transmission smart sports companion, the “goccia sprite,” which has been dubbed the “Tesla” of the smart wearable world.
Optical transmission outperforms Bluetooth: zero radiation, low energy consumption
The Explorer goccia sprite is a sports companion device jointly launched by Explorer and G-wearables Lab, based in California, USA. It features functions such as sports monitoring, sleep monitoring and analysis, positioning, sharing, and social networking. Sports monitoring includes step counting, sedentary analysis, calorie consumption tracking, and goal setting. Unlike other smart wearables that rely on Bluetooth, the Explorer goccia sprite uses optical transmission — a globally unique feature. Users do not need to turn on Bluetooth; data can be synchronized via the front camera, making “zero radiation and low energy consumption” one of its standout advantages.
A tech-savvy fashion accessory: wearable or clip-on
In addition to its unique optical transmission capability, the stylish design is another highlight of the Explorer goccia sprite. Weighing just 3 grams, it is the smallest and lightest sports companion device in the world. Designers have also developed the world’s smallest wireless charger, perfectly matched to its compact size. With IP7-level waterproofing, it can even be worn while swimming, reducing users’ sense of being restricted by location. It offers multiple wearing options, including wristband, necklace, and collar clip, and is seen by fashion enthusiasts as a “secret weapon” to enhance personal charm. Additionally, consumers can customize their own unique ways to wear it.
The “Tesla” of the smart wearable world: IDEA Design Award Silver Prize
In 2014, the goccia won the prestigious Silver Award at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in the United States — an award with global influence — sharing the honor with the renowned Tesla car. It has been praised by international professionals as the “Tesla of the smart wearable world” and enjoys widespread acclaim. In June of this year, Explorer and G-wearables Lab jointly established an “Outdoor Sports Research Model,” using methods such as workshops with outdoor professionals, product experience monitoring, and quantitative surveys to collect first-hand feedback from athletes. This data is then used to refine both software and hardware development, aiming to solve the core issue of disconnect between smart hardware development and user experience. The APP 2.0 upgrade, set to launch at the end of October, will meet outdoor enthusiasts’ needs for monitoring, route tracking, social sharing, and more.
The release of the goccia sprite by Explorer is seen as a signal of its official entry into the smart wearable industry. Previously focused on traditional outdoor fields, this crossover move has generated high expectations among many consumers.
It is understood that the Explorer goccia sprite is compatible with Apple iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S (iOS 7.0+). An Android version of the app will be launched at the end of September, compatible with phones such as the Samsung S4/S5, meeting the needs of different mobile users. During the National Day holiday, the goccia sprite will be gradually introduced in Explorer stores nationwide and will also be available for sale on the Tmall flagship store, with an expected retail price of 899 yuan.
