On the first day of the event, trainers from all over Taiwan “gathered” in Taichung early in the morning. Popular spots such as the Wenhua Forest Park (the secondary exhibition area of the Taiwan Lantern Festival, which was lit up last December), the Caotun Road Civic Plaza, and the areas around the City-Front Square saw large crowds of trainers, including many expert Pokémon players who shared insights on the uniqueness of this Taichung edition of “Pokémon GO.”

One of the most special stories is that of Ms. Yu, an overseas Chinese from Los Angeles, USA, who returned to Taiwan specifically for this event. She plans to stay in Taichung for four consecutive days to celebrate this Pokémon feast. Ms. Yu said she was lucky enough to catch a rare Pokémon in Taichung right away and even traded with trainers from around the world to share the exciting news. She’s staying in Taiwan for six days in total, with four of them in Taichung. She plans to spend one day visiting the Taiwan Lantern Festival and the rest of the time hunting rare Pokémon in the city.

Annie from Australia learned about the Pokémon event in Taichung online and decided to extend her vacation to come here. Yesterday, she wore a Pikachu hat and interacted with other trainers in the park. She said that many Pokémon events abroad require purchasing tickets or paying extra fees, but this event in Taichung is not only free but also features rare Pokémon, along with creative lantern displays from the Taiwan Lantern Festival—making it both fun and novel.

An engineer who runs a YouTube channel specializing in Pokémon-themed content said he started playing Pokémon when it launched in Taiwan in August 2016. Although he’s already reached the maximum level 40, he goes wherever Pokémon appear—he’s traveled almost all over Taiwan. After learning about the Taichung Pokémon event from the official website, he decided to come here to film. He had just arrived at the park when he caught a “Volbeat,” which was a delightful surprise.
