The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival took place in Taichung. This year’s festival featured three major exhibition zones, with the auxiliary zone at Wenxin Forest Park lighting up on December 21 of the previous year. The main zones — Houli Forest Park and Horse Ranch Park — also grandly opened on February 8, the day of the Lantern Festival, and ran until February 23 for a total of 16 days.

The 2020 Taiwan Lantern Festival's main lantern “Forest Guardian – Tree of Light” features 22 glowing tree trunks representing cities and counties, 368 flower buds symbolizing townships, and 2359 heart-shaped leaves representing the people, expressing wishes for harmony and unity across Taiwan, and prosperity for the nation.
The main exhibition zone is located in the Houli Flower Expo Park, covering an area of approximately 35 hectares. With the theme “Mysterious Forest Realm,” it includes various themed sections such as the “Mountainfield Joy Lantern Area” that promotes coexistence with local communities, the “New Residents’ Harmony Lantern Area” showcasing multiculturalism among new residents, the “Deities’ Religious Lantern Area,” the “Radiant 29 Flower Lantern Parade Lantern Area” highlighting the characteristics of different districts in Taichung, the “International Friendship Lantern Area,” and the “Lantern Competition Area.”
The innovative auxiliary lantern “Blessings from the Earth” features a spherical lamp that emits the sound of seeds falling when touched. Through visual and auditory interaction, visitors can experience the Forest Mother scattering seeds.

The traditional auxiliary lantern “Birds Singing Together to Celebrate Auspiciousness” is themed around the Mikado pheasant.

The traditional auxiliary lantern “Jazz Rats Joyfully Welcoming the Bride” combines the legend of “The Mouse Wedding.” As the Jazz Rats’ wedding procession enters the “Joyful Rat Grove,” guests are invited to attend a splendid and fantastical wedding party blending Eastern and Western elements.
