On February 6, two new confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia were reported nationwide, bringing the total to 13. The first domestic case has also recovered and is awaiting discharge. February 6 was the first day of the real-name mask purchasing system. As of 11:43, 5,853 authorized pharmacies had confirmed their inventory online, with 5,012 already selling masks, totaling 720,502 masks sold.

On February 6, two new imported cases of severe contagious pneumonia were reported in Taiwan, involving a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s from northern Taiwan.
The male patient worked in Wuhan from December 2019 to January 2020, traveled from Wuhan to Liaoning on January 17, and returned to Taiwan from Dalian, Liaoning on February 2. He developed symptoms such as fever, cough, and headache on February 3, and sought medical attention on February 4.
The female patient had been living in Wuhan and returned to Taiwan via Shenzhen on January 21. She developed symptoms including coughing with phlegm and chest tightness on February 1, and sought medical help on February 4. Both patients were diagnosed with pneumonia, confirmed through testing, and are currently isolated in stable condition. Hospitals and health authorities have initiated contact tracing and other preventive measures. To date, Taiwan has 13 confirmed cases, all in stable condition.
One patient has shown significant improvement—the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in Taiwan—who has tested negative in three consecutive tests, shown radiographic improvement, and is now in good recovery. This patient has been released from isolation and is awaiting arrangements for discharge and home care. The patient expressed gratitude to frontline medical staff today.
February 6 was also the first day of the real-name mask distribution system at authorized pharmacies under the National Health Insurance Administration. Although sales were originally scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM, some pharmacies requested more time to familiarize themselves with the system. Therefore, the system went live for pharmacies at 8:30 AM, with some beginning sales shortly after.
Some pharmacies experienced difficulties going online due to not using Internet Explorer. These issues were promptly resolved. The administration monitored the situation province-wide, with overall smooth operations. Although there were isolated issues with pharmacy logins or slightly slower verification, most users completed purchases within 15 to 20 seconds.
The Central Epidemic Command Center reported 55 new suspected cases of severe special contagious pneumonia, bringing the total number of reported cases to 1,290. This includes 13 confirmed, 1,135 ruled out, and the rest under isolation and testing (98 preliminary negative, others pending). The 13 confirmed cases remain stable and are hospitalized in isolation.
Among the contacts of the first confirmed case, all have been released from monitoring except one who tested positive. Contacts of the two newly confirmed cases today are being traced. A total of 493 contacts of the other 10 cases are under monitoring, including 12 with symptoms (10 ruled out, 2 under testing).
Additionally, a group of Taiwanese businessmen who returned from Wuhan on the evening of February 3: as of now, five have been transferred to negative-pressure isolation wards, while 242 others in centralized quarantine are under close health monitoring, with five showing symptoms (two to be transferred for testing).
According to data from China's CDC and health commissions across provinces, as of now, all 31 provinces (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) have reported a total of 28,018 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection, an increase of 3,694 from the previous day. This includes 3,859 severe cases and 563 deaths, plus 24,702 suspected cases. Community clusters have emerged in multiple regions. A total of 282,813 people have been identified as close contacts, with 186,354 still under monitoring.
Outside of Taiwan, there are 211 confirmed cases internationally across 26 countries/regions. The highest numbers are Thailand (25), Singapore (24), Japan (21, excluding 4 asymptomatic and 10 detected on a cruise ship), Hong Kong (21), and South Korea (19). There have been two deaths—one each in the Philippines and Hong Kong.
