The star of this article, the PRW-3000-2B, is the latest masterpiece from Casio’s third-generation Triple Sensor digital series. For this new addition to the PRO TREK lineup launched last year, what you’ve probably seen the most is its outstanding performance in mountaineering or other outdoor activities—but you might not have expected it to also take control of your daily life, right? As an office worker who loves outdoor adventures but has no time for them, once I got a hiking watch, I had to dig deep into its everyday functions—and sure enough, this PRW-3000-2B Blue Monster lived up to my expectations. In addition to being great for outdoor use, it’s also surprisingly powerful for daily life tasks. Today, let me share with you the secrets I’ve uncovered about the daily magic of the PRW-3000-2B after exploring it for ages.

Triple Sensor Daily Life "Divine" Guidance

Think the Triple Sensor is some rigid old man? Then you’re absolutely wrong—the Triple Sensor in the PRW-3000 is a cute little guru. Come on, let this guru give us some guidance.

Weather Forecasting Guide

The PRW-3000-2B comes equipped with Casio’s third-generation Triple Sensor, which can directly measure three types of data: altitude, barometric pressure/temperature, and direction, and can calculate altitude based on barometric pressure readings. Improved accuracy and frequency in barometric pressure measurement enhance weather forecasting reliability. By monitoring changes in air pressure, you can easily predict trends in weather changes.

Imagine this—before heading out to work in the morning, just press the second button on the right side of the watch, the “BARO” key, and you can view the current temperature, air pressure, and barometric pressure trend graph. Dress accordingly based on the temperature, and estimate whether it might rain using the pressure graph—it’s almost like having a crystal ball, a predictive power of the future. The top of the watch screen shows the barometric pressure trend, the middle displays the current pressure value, and the bottom shows the temperature reading. On the right side of the dial’s internal frame, there’s a scale marked “10,” “5,” “0,” “-5,” “-10,” along with a black square on the edge of the LCD indicating the change in pressure between the last two measurements. Currently, the measured pressure and temperature are “1004hpa” and “30.8°C” respectively, with a slow pressure trend—no rain today, so no need for an umbrella. The indoor temperature is quite high, so wearing two thin layers will be enough.

Outdoor Worker Surveying Guide

Once you get to the office, press the first button on the right, the “COMP” key, and you can find out how high your office is above sea level. The top of the watch screen shows the altitude trend graph, the middle displays the altitude measurement, and the bottom shows the time. The currently displayed “66m” is the elevation at my location—pretty cool, right? Press the “MODE” button to switch to the “REC” data recall mode, where the screen will display altitude and other data recorded at different times. This feature is super useful during outdoor hikes or climbs—you can log the altitude of a certain spot as part of your trip log for future reference, helping hikers assess the difficulty level of each trail. This function is also very helpful for outdoor professionals like topographic survey teams or resource environment explorers.

Tech-Newbie Winter Operation Guide

The button design of the PRW-3000-2B is quite unique. Buttons for Triple Sensor functions all have corresponding icons, making them easy to identify—even tech newbies can operate them with ease. The buttons are raised, so even when wearing gloves in winter, you can still press them with one touch. Its -10°C low-temperature resistance ensures the watch can withstand cold weather without worrying about time accuracy being affected by the chill.

Navigation Guide for the Directionally Challenged

If you’re as directionally challenged as I am, then the built-in compass function will be your lifesaver. It helps you measure direction when locating places. As a directionally challenged foodie, I often need to find spots recommended in food blogs. While I use Baidu Maps for navigation, the walking route directions are sometimes vague—for example, it might just tell you the destination is to your “north-by-south.” That’s when you can combine it with the watch’s direction indicator. Press the “COMP” button to display directional info. The 12 o’clock position on the watch face indicates the target direction, the top of the screen shows the current bearing, and the north arrow is made up of three black squares along the edge of the screen. Based on the directional data shown, you can determine the target direction and replan your walking route. For example, as shown now, my target direction is NNE, with true north at around 55 to 60 minutes, and my current position is at 14° northeast by north.

Must-Have for Business Trips / Travel

There must be friends out there who, like me, have no idea how to handle their watch’s time settings. When traveling for work, you can’t easily switch to the local time, the watch time often throws tantrums for no reason, or even stubbornly stops moving altogether. After a fierce battle of wills with the watch, I finally emerged victorious—I don’t have to put up with its bad attitude anymore. The Blue Monster is definitely my soulmate and bestie...

Office Worker / Hiker Time Sync Guide

Pics or it didn’t happen. The Blue Monster PRW-3000-2B can receive signals from six radio towers across China, Japan, North America, and Europe—that’s the so-called “6-station global radio wave” feature everyone’s talking about, a uniquely cool function exclusive to Casio. Not only that, it can also handle world time for 48 cities. No matter where you travel or go on business—as long as your location can receive a radio signal, you can sync your watch to the local timezone by receiving signals from the area’s radio tower. Press and hold the “ADJUST” button to enter world time setting mode. The PRW-3000-2B automatically adjusts time daily from midnight to 5 AM, perfect for frequent flyers needing to keep track of the time no matter where in the world they are.

When the watch is performing radio time synchronization, staying indoors, among buildings, or in areas with strong electromagnetic interference may weaken the signal reception. It is recommended to sync the time outdoors or near a window where the signal is stronger.

Non-Outdoor / Everyday Light Charging Guide

Additionally, it comes with a high-capacity solar rechargeable battery. Just place the watch face under a light source to charge it—even weak light can be converted into electricity. Not limited to sunlight, any light source including fluorescent lamps, desk lamps, or even your computer screen can help charge the Blue Monster. Thanks to the high-capacity solar charging technology, all the powerful features of the PRW-3000-2B can be fully utilized without worrying about battery life.

Guide to Avoiding Oversleeping

Don’t like that your smartphone alarm stops working after the phone is powered off? Or tired of having to keep your phone on all night just for the alarm, which leads to excessive radiation? I often face this issue too, but that’s when the PRW-3000-2B, our little alarm clock expert, comes to the rescue. Let me show you how it works. Press the “MODE” button to switch to alarm mode, then press the “ALTI” button to select an alarm—for example, “AL-1” shown at the top of the screen. Next, hold down the “ADJUST” button until “SET HOLD” appears on the display, then press the “MODE” button to set the hours or minutes. Use the “ALTI” and “COMP” buttons to set the exact alarm time. Once set, press the “ADJUST” button to exit the setting screen. This watch comes with five independently usable daily alarms. When the preset alarm time is reached—even if the watch isn’t in stopwatch mode—it will sound for about 10 seconds. When the alarm goes off, you can press any button to stop it. For those who love to sleep in, just set two more alarms—you won’t oversleep!
