The star of this article, the PRW-3000-2B, is the latest masterpiece from Casio’s third-generation Triple Sensor digital series. For this new addition to the PRO TREK lineup launched last year, you’ve probably seen it in action during mountain climbing or other outdoor sports, but did you ever imagine it could also take control of your daily life? As an office worker who loves the outdoors but has no time, I have to dig deep into the everyday functions of my hiking watch. And sure enough, this PRW-3000-2B Blue Elf lives up to my expectations — aside from being great for outdoor use, it’s also incredibly powerful for daily life. Today, let me tell you about the secrets of the PRW-3000-2B that I’ve explored for so long in everyday scenarios.

Triple Sensor Life “Divine” Guidance

Think the Triple Sensor is some rigid old man? Then you’re absolutely wrong — the PRW-3000’s Triple Sensor is actually a cute deity. Come on, let this deity give us some guidance.

Weather Recognition Guide

The PRW-3000-2B comes equipped with Casio’s third-generation Triple Sensor, which can directly measure three types of data: altitude, barometric pressure/temperature, and direction, and calculate altitude data based on barometric pressure readings. The improved accuracy and frequency of barometric pressure measurements enhance the reliability of weather forecasting. By predicting trends based on changes in barometric pressure, you can easily anticipate shifts in the weather.

Imagine this: before heading out to work in the morning, simply press the second button on the right side of the watch, the “BARO” key, to display the current temperature, barometric pressure, and a pressure trend graph. Dress accordingly based on the temperature, and estimate whether it might rain using the pressure graph — it’s almost like having divine foresight. The top of the watch screen shows the pressure trend graph, the middle displays the barometric pressure value, and the bottom shows the temperature reading. On the right side of the dial frame, there’s a scale marked “10,” “5,” “0,” “-5,” “-10,” which, together with a black square on the edge of the LCD screen, indicates the change in barometric pressure between the two most recent measurements. Currently, the measured barometric pressure and temperature are “1004hPa” and “30.8°C” respectively, with a relatively stable pressure trend — no rain today, so no need for an umbrella. The indoor temperature is high, so wearing just two thin layers is enough.

Outdoor Worker Survey Guide

Once at the office, press the first button on the right, the “COMP” key, to find out how high your office building is. The top of the watch screen shows the altitude trend graph, the middle displays the measured altitude value, and the bottom shows the time. The currently displayed “66m” is the elevation of my location — pretty cool, right? Press the “MODE” key to switch to “REC” Data Recall Mode, where the screen will show altitude and other data recorded at different times. This feature is very useful during outdoor hikes or climbs, allowing you to log the altitude of specific spots as part of your trail journal for future reference, helping hikers assess the difficulty level of each route. This function is also extremely valuable for outdoor professionals such as topographic survey teams and resource/environmental explorers.

Tech Novice Winter Operation Guide

The PRW-3000-2B features uniquely designed buttons, with those related to Triple Sensor functions marked with corresponding icons for easy recognition — even tech novices can operate it with ease. The buttons are raised, so even when wearing gloves in winter, you can still operate them with a single press. Its ability to withstand temperatures as low as -10°C ensures the watch can brave the cold without any worries about time accuracy being affected.

Navigation Guide for the Directionally Challenged

If you’re directionally challenged like me, then the built-in compass function will be your lifesaver. It helps you determine direction when looking for places. Someone like me — a directionally challenged foodie — often needs to find locations from food guides. I usually use Baidu Maps for navigation, but when it shows walking routes, the directional information is quite vague, like only telling you the destination is in the “north-by-south” direction. That’s when you can use the watch’s direction indicator in combination. Press the “COMP” button to display directional info. The 12 o’clock position on the watch face indicates the target direction, the top of the screen shows the current direction of the target, and the north arrow is represented by three black squares along the edge of the screen. Based on the directional data shown, you can determine the target direction and replan your walking route. For example, as it stands now, my target direction is NNE, with due north between the 55- and 60-minute marks, and my current orientation is 14° northeast by north.

Essential for Business Trips / Travel

There must be friends out there who, like me, have no idea how to handle their watch’s time settings. When traveling for work, you can’t easily switch to the local time, the watch often throws a tantrum for no reason, or even stubbornly stops working altogether. After an epic battle of wills with my watch — and emerging victorious — I finally don’t have to put up with its attitude anymore. The Blue Elf is definitely my best friend and confidante...

Office Worker / Hiker Time Adjustment Guide

Pictures don’t lie. The Blue Elf PRW-3000-2B can receive signals from six radio towers across China, Japan, North America, and Europe — this is what everyone calls the “Global 6-Station Radio Wave” function, a one-of-a-kind, ultra-cool feature from Casio. Not only that, it can also handle world time across 48 cities. No matter where you travel or go on business, as long as your location can receive radio wave signals, you can switch your watch’s time to the local time zone by receiving the signal from the local radio tower. Press and hold the “ADJUST” key to enter World Time Setting Mode. The PRW-3000-2B automatically adjusts the time daily from midnight to 5 a.m., perfect for frequent flyers who need to stay on top of the time no matter where they are in the world.

When the watch is performing radio time synchronization, staying indoors, among buildings, or in areas with strong electromagnetic interference may weaken the signal reception. It is recommended to synchronize the time outdoors or near a window where the signal is stronger.

Charging Guide Without Outdoor / Daily Light Sources

Moreover, it comes with a high-capacity solar rechargeable battery. Simply place the watch face under a light source to charge it — even weak light can be converted into electrical energy. Not limited to sunlight, any light source including fluorescent lights, desk lamps, or even computer screens can help power up the Blue Elf. Thanks to its large-capacity solar charging battery technology, all the powerful features of the PRW-3000-2B can be fully utilized without worrying about battery life.

Guide to Avoiding Oversleeping

Don’t like that your smartphone alarm stops working after the phone is powered off? Or do you hate leaving your phone on all night just for the alarm, causing too much radiation? I often have this problem too. That’s when the PRW-3000-2B, our little alarm clock expert, comes to the rescue. Let me show you how it works. Press the “MODE” button to switch to alarm mode, then press the “ALTI” button to select an alarm, such as “AL-1” shown at the top of the screen. Next, hold down the “ADJUST” button until “SET HOLD” appears on the display. Then press the “MODE” button to set the hour or minute. Use the “ALTI” and “COMP” buttons to set the alarm time. Once set, press the “ADJUST” button to exit the setting screen. This watch comes with 5 independently usable daily alarms. When the preset alarm time is reached—even if the watch isn’t in stopwatch mode—it will sound for about 10 seconds. When the alarm goes off, you can press any button to stop it. For those who love to sleep in, just set two more alarms—you won’t oversleep!
