Xindian’s “?? Lake” isn’t just adorable in name—the lake’s azure waters and the surrounding mountain-and-lake vistas are simply enchanting. Back in the 1960s, it was a popular dating spot, though visitor numbers have since declined. The lake’s crystal-clear waters are dotted with Bidens pilosa and Wedelia chinensis in season, creating a uniquely serene atmosphere with fewer crowds.

Taiwan’s second-largest reservoir, Feitsui Reservoir boasts diverse flora and fauna in its catchment area. Highlights include the endemic Rhododendron kanehirae, which puts on a spectacular floral display every March. Wildlife such as Formosan macaques and Taiwan blue magpies can also be spotted here, while the Feitsui tree frog was named after being discovered near the reservoir. The site offers insights into water conservation, reservoir ecology, and construction, making it a great choice for family visits.

After taking the MRT to Xindian Station, head toward Bitan to explore the charming Bitan Old Street before walking across the iconic Bitan Suspension Bridge. Both daytime and nighttime views are stunning. You can also rent a swan boat to admire the riverside scenery from a different angle or visit the nearby Hemei Mountain Trail for breathtaking panoramic views of Bitan.

Nestled on the mountainside at the border of Xindian and Muzha, the 200-meter-high Milky Way Cave Waterfall features a roughly 40-meter drop, with cascading waters that create an ethereal atmosphere year-round. The waterfall is nestled within a concave rock wall, and the trail along the way is lined with lush greenery, offering an easy and popular hiking route.
