2015 Valentine’s Day — A City-Wide Kiss Silhouette Event

ChengduFebruary 15, 2015, News — /PRNewswire/ — On Valentine’s Day, The U.S. Tour Group (www.toursforfun.com) joined forces with IFS in Chengdu to launch the “Sweet Kiss Silhouette Photo Booth” event, which quickly became a hot topic among the city’s youth.

The U.S. Tour Group creates a unique Valentine’s — a city-wide romantic silhouette experience

Leave a memory“for love”

A small wooden cabin quietly appeared yesterday on the square next to IFS in the Chunxi Road shopping district. Its pink rose petal patterns were festive and cheerful, and a large heart-shaped cutout on the front revealed a white fabric hanging behind it. The mysterious little wooden house caught the attention of passersby, sparking curiosity and conversation.

As dusk fell, the mystery was finally revealed. Pure-colored lights illuminated the inside of the cabin, and the silhouette of a couple appeared on the screen, locked in a sweet kiss. It turned out to be a photo booth where you could capture your kissing silhouette in the spotlight.

“Wow, so romantic!” People passing by quickly noticed them and eagerly pulled out their phones to take photos, sharing them on Weibo and Moments.

Kissing Mom

Before long, the couple inside walked out hand-in-hand. Mr. Zhang said he had just seen the booth while passing by and decided to go in with his girlfriend. “Once the light hit us, our shadow appeared on the screen. There were also posture suggestion boards inside for different kissing styles — it was quite fun.”Out they came, said Zhang Xian, who explained that he had seen it while passing by and had pulled his girlfriend inside with him. “Once the lights went on inside, our shadows appeared on the screen. There were also pose suggestion boards for kissing inside – kind of fun.”

In just a short while, several other couples went in to take photos. Surprisingly, a young woman walked in with her mother, tenderly kissing her on the cheek behind the screen. After taking the photo, Ms. Liu said she and her mother are as close as sisters, and her mom is very trendy, celebrating holidays like Valentine’s Day and Christmas. “I think expressing love and gratitude to my mom this way is quite creative, and the photo turned out really nice.”

Inspired by the moment, members of the crowd began to eagerly step into the cabin with their families to take photos, with many parents even bringing along their babies.

A City-Wide Kiss

Coco, the event site manager and Brand Director of The U.S. Tour Group, explained:HowToTrip’sbrand director Coco introduced“Valentine’s Dayis a sweet holiday, and we hope people can share their own moments of happiness and inspire others. Since Chinese people tend to be more reserved and traditional, openly kissing in public might make some shy, and there's also concern that kissing events have become a bit overdone,” Coco said. “This cabin creates a relatively intimate and enclosed space, and silhouettes make the images more beautiful. We believe the effect is even better this way.”

In addition to IFS, nearly identical events were held simultaneously at many other locations across Chengdu, including Lan Kwai Fong, Shihao Plaza, and Vientiane City in the eastern part of the city.

Inspiration from Abroad

Coco added that the concept was inspired by a creative idea from overseas netizens. On video-sharing websites, a video titled “Turns Out Kissing Can Be This Beautiful” has been widely reposted, garnering millions of views. The footage shows couples going from shy to sweet inside the booth, and families capturing joyful, loving moments together — an incredibly touching sight. The concept was inspired by a creative idea from overseas netizens. From showing affection to...“Focus on the inner self”

Looking at this year’s new activities, people were intrigued and eagerly commented back and forth. Mr. Zhou, a passerby at the scene, had an interesting take. He felt that this format shifted people’s attention from “showing off affection” to “focusing on the inner self.” “Love is really just a shadow in the heart. Projecting that silhouette onto a screen and taking a photo of it—I think it carries quite a bit of meaning. Also, this method makes people stop focusing on how attractive the kissing couple looks, and instead start appreciating the emotional expression during the kiss, which brings a sense of touching sentiment. Moving from the external to the internal, it could be considered a kind of spiritual pursuit,” he said.

As night deepened, the venue remained bustling with people. This Valentine’s Day, there was just a little less extravagance and a little more heartfelt emotion.
