Blue Sky and Green Land X Stunning Landscape Art: 2018 Taoyuan Sculpture Exhibition

Taoyuan City frequently hosts art-related events, and recently presented the “2018 Taoyuan International Sculpture Creation Exhibition.” It invited eight prominent domestic and international artists to the Gueiping Cultural Landscape Park in Guanyin, Taoyuan, where they immersed themselves in the local culture, customs, and nature to create unique artworks specifically for Gueiping.

The Gueiping Cultural Landscape Park was once an important radio receiving station during the Japanese colonial period, facilitating wireless communication between Taiwan and the rest of the world. After being abandoned, the Taoyuan City Urban Development Bureau preserved the park’s natural features and forested areas, transforming it into the current Gueiping Cultural Landscape Park—a forested hidden gem in Taoyuan.

Drawing on the site’s history as a former radio receiving station, this exhibition is themed “Transboundary Imagination—Gueiping Echo.” The artists used natural materials such as driftwood, marble, metal, clay, and rice straw, while also drawing inspiration from visual concepts like sound waves, radio waves, and ripples.

This year’s 2018 Taoyuan International Sculpture Creation Exhibition featured prominent domestic artists such as Ho Heng-hsiung and Lee Ta-hao, along with internationally acclaimed artists from France, Romania, Cyprus, the United States, Bulgaria, and Argentina.

Whether from Taiwan or abroad, the artists listened intently and felt the voice, culture, and pulse of Gueiping, creating installation art, landscape art, and three-dimensional sculptures themed around the earth, nature, and Gueiping.
