Wuhan pneumonia epidemic prevention: Universities postpone start of term & masks required in Tiangong Temple

Following the announcement on the 2nd to postpone the start of classes for senior high schools and below by two weeks, the Ministry of Education also announced that all universities in Taiwan will postpone the start of the semester until after February 25th. Mainland Chinese students are still temporarily barred from entering Taiwan, and each school is to develop its own measures to make up for lost class time.

Many public venues across Taiwan have set up temperature checkpoints at entrances in response to the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic. The renowned Xingtian Temple has also adopted this measure, requiring visitors to wear masks to enter. Many tourists without masks could not buy them on the spot and were thus unable to enter the temple for worship.

The novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic in mainland China continues to expand. In Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, the cumulative number of confirmed cases has been rising recently, reaching 265 as of February 1st, the highest among all second-level administrative regions outside Hubei Province. There may already be community transmission occurring locally.

Moreover, starting from February 2nd, Wenzhou has begun implementing land transport controls and restrictions on resident movement among other intervention measures. Considering that there are direct flights between Taiwan and Wenzhou, and frequent personnel exchanges between the two sides, the Central Epidemic Command Center has decided to classify Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, as a Level 2 epidemic area starting from tomorrow, February 3rd.
 
Inbound travelers with a travel history in Wenzhou will be subject to home quarantine. Mainland Chinese nationals residing in Wenzhou are prohibited from entering Taiwan. Those found to have a fever or acute respiratory symptoms upon entry will be immediately sent to designated medical institutions for testing before being sent home for home quarantine. If the test result is positive, they will be subjected to mandatory isolation following the confirmed case procedure.
 
Any suspected symptoms should be reported immediately by calling the toll-free epidemic prevention hotline 1922 (or 0800-001-922). Follow instructions to wear a mask and seek medical attention promptly, and be sure to inform the doctor of your travel history, occupation, contact history, and whether you’ve been in a group setting (TOCC), to enable timely diagnosis and reporting.
