Published by the Kaohsiung City Government – Department of Information and edited by Mook Publishing, the book "Master Asia New Bay Area with This Guide" will host a new book sharing session at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 5th, in the Exhibition Hall on the second floor of MLD Reading in TAIKU Bookstore, Kaohsiung. The event will feature guest speakers including Director of the Department of Information, Chang Chia-hsing, and popular travel blogger CLARE, creator of the 'CLARE's Life Style' blog, which has attracted 20 million visitors, sharing their experiences of food and travel in Kaohsiung.

The site of Kaohsiung Port was originally a small fishing village known as 'Takao.' Through development under Dutch, Ming Zheng, and Qing rule, it gradually became the commercial hub of the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area. After the Treaty of Tianjin opened Kaohsiung Port to international trade, during the Japanese colonial period, the Governor-General of Taiwan undertook improvements to address navigation hazards such as reefs and siltation, transforming Kaohsiung Port into a modern harbor. The planning of the Xizisha Industrial Zone laid the foundation for Kaohsiung’s role as an “Industrial Capital.” After the ROC government relocated to Taiwan, Kaohsiung Port underwent expansion projects, opening the Second Port and establishing the world’s first Export Processing Zone. Kaohsiung Port rose to become the third-largest container port globally, following Hong Kong and Singapore.
In recent years, through five key public infrastructure projects—including the “Kaohsiung Exhibition Center” to boost the convention and exhibition industry, the “Kaohsiung Harbor Cruise Terminal” as an international tourism gateway, the “Marine Culture and Pop Music Center” as a new waterfront landmark, the “Kaohsiung Public Library” for digital multimedia reading, and the “Kaohsiung Circular Light Rail” integrating harbor recreation with urban transport—four major public buildings and the Kaohsiung Multifunctional Trade and Economic Park have been successively completed. These developments have created a world-class harbor district. Kaohsiung has evolved beyond its identity as a harbor city, establishing the new landmark “Asia New Bay Area,” attracting industries such as cultural creativity, information technology, and tourism. With more waterfront spaces released and external investment drawn in, the city is gradually transforming into an international harbor metropolis, putting Kaohsiung on the global map.
