Hanergy Holding Group is a global clean energy multinational and the world leader in thin-film solar power generation, committed to "changing the world with clean energy."

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Beijing, the company now has 15,000 employees and has established branches in various provinces across China as well as in the Americas, Europe & Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Africa. Its business spans hydropower, wind power, and thin-film solar power generation.

Currently, Hanergy’s total installed capacity of hydropower projects under equity stands at over 6 GW, and its total installed wind power capacity is 131 MW. In the field of thin-film solar power generation, Hanergy has invested in and built R&D and manufacturing bases in Sichuan, Guangdong, Hainan, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Jiangsu, achieving a total production capacity of 3 GW. Hanergy has also developed power station resources globally, signing approximately 10 GW of thin-film power station construction agreements with provinces and regions such as Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Jiangsu, Hainan, Shandong, and Hebei, as well as with multiple European countries. It has become a high-tech clean energy enterprise that integrates the entire industrial chain of thin-film power generation — including R&D, high-end equipment manufacturing, component production, and power station construction.

Through global technology integration and independent innovation, Hanergy’s thin-film solar power generation technology has reached internationally leading levels. Currently, Hanergy’s copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) modules have been certified by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) to achieve a maximum conversion efficiency of 21%; its gallium arsenide (GaAs) modules have received certification from the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for a maximum conversion efficiency of 30.8%, setting the world record for the highest conversion efficiency in thin-film power generation technology. Thin-film power generation technology offers advantages such as flexibility, lightweight construction, excellent performance in low light, color adjustability, and shape adaptability. It can be widely applied in areas such as Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), residential power generation, agricultural applications, automotive use, electronic products, general-purpose products, specialty products, and commercial drones.

In February 2014, the results of MIT Technology Review’s "50 Disruptive Companies" — the world’s most influential technology and business award — were announced, and Hanergy ranked 23rd, becoming the only domestic energy company on the list.

Hanergy’s industries include thin-film power generation, hydropower, wind power, and energy conservation & emission reduction.

Thin-Film Power Generation

The future and overall trend of the photovoltaic industry lie in thin-film and flexible technologies. Based on this strategic judgment, Hanergy has focused on the thin-film solar route and has become the world’s largest and most technologically advanced thin-film solar company.

Thin-film solar cell technology is part of the new generation of solar cell technologies, offering advantages such as environmental friendliness, no pollution, low cost, high average power generation, and good low-light response. Through proactive industrial layout, Hanergy has formed a complete industrial chain business model covering upstream core technology R&D and high-end equipment manufacturing, midstream solar cell component production, and downstream thin-film power generation system integration solutions.

Thin-Film Solar Cell R&D and Production

Since entering the thin-film power generation field in 2009, Hanergy has invested in and built multiple thin-film solar R&D and manufacturing bases in Sichuan, Guangdong, Hainan, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Jiangsu. By 2012, Hanergy’s annual thin-film power generation production capacity had reached 3 GW, equivalent to an additional 4 billion kWh of electricity generated per year, enough to meet the annual residential electricity needs of a city with a population of 10 million. Currently, Hanergy has successfully passed various certifications including TUV (European market requirements), CQC Golden Sun (Chinese market requirements), UL, MCS (UK market requirements), EPC qualification certificates, ISO9001:2008 quality management system certification, as well as ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) & OHSAS18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) certifications.

Hydropower

The traditional clean energy hydropower sector is the cornerstone of Hanergy’s development. Hanergy has invested in hydropower projects in provinces such as Yunnan and Guangdong. Currently, Hanergy’s total installed hydropower capacity under equity exceeds 6 million kW.

Wind Power

Hanergy began developing wind power in 2000 and currently has a total installed wind power capacity of 131 MW.

Energy Conservation & Emission Reduction

As early as 2005, Hanergy entered the field of emission reduction management services, and in February 2012, it established the Hanergy Emission Reduction and Services Group, dedicated to greenhouse gas emission reduction. The group’s business focuses on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) technical consulting services, supported by voluntary emission reduction markets (VCM), energy conservation and emission reduction certifications, and potential project investments, enjoying a high reputation in the industry.

In the CDM field, more than 70 projects developed by Hanergy have been approved by China’s National Development and Reform Commission, and over 60 projects have been successfully registered with the United Nations CDM Executive Board. In the voluntary emission reduction market (VCM), some projects have undergone verification and validation, with six projects successfully achieving VERs (Verified Emission Reductions) sales, bringing VCM income to clients, and more projects entering mature development stages.

On June 18, 2013, on the first trading day of the Shenzhen Emissions Exchange — China’s first carbon emissions trading market — Hanergy purchased 10,000 tonnes of carbon emission allowances, completing the first carbon trade in the Chinese carbon market.
