Located in central Kawaramachi, Kyoto, Maja Hotel is a capsule accommodation designed by Finnish industrial designer Harri Koskinen. He blends Nordic design with Japanese woodworking to create a healing space that’s both refined and warm.

Also known as “the cabin,” Maja Hotel offers two different room sizes, with a total of 60 options for guests to choose from. The designer aimed to create an atmosphere where guests can feel as relaxed as they would at home.

The hotel uses plenty of wood as its main material, paired with simple furniture and color schemes, filling the entire space with Nordic minimalism while retaining the warmth of Japanese woodworking. Every corner has a Muji-like vibe, making it very comforting.

Even the hotel’s reception lobby is kept very simple.
The first floor of the hotel also hosts the first overseas branch of Café Aalto, a famous café from Helsinki, Finland, allowing guests to experience Nordic café ambiance and culture while in Kyoto.
