Keelung’s Badouzi, touted as one of northern Taiwan’s most picturesque coastlines, now offers a new way to explore. The New Taipei City Government and Taiwan Railways have jointly launched the Shen’ao Railway Bike, combining breathtaking coastal views, coastal ecosystems, coal mining culture, and railway heritage to give travelers a deeper appreciation of the North Coast.

Badouzi Station spans both Keelung City and New Taipei City. Its stunning scenery has earned it the reputation of being one of northern Taiwan’s most beautiful train stations. The Shen’ao Line has been praised as “Taiwan’s most scenic coastal branch line.” It’s very convenient for visitors wanting to enjoy fresh seafood or explore the North Coast, Jiufen, and the Gold Ecological Park.

This railway bike trail, the closest to the coastline, connects many nearby attractions, including Shen’ao Fishing Port, Elephant Trunk Rock, Jiaoshi Park, the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, Shuishe Cave, Jinguashi, and Jiufen, offering travelers an in-depth experience of the North Coast’s beauty.

The Shen’ao Railway Bike not only preserves the unique sea views, ecology, coal mining culture, and railway features but also features adorable and playful blowfish-shaped bikes. To deliver an even more exciting ride, a dazzling underwater-themed tunnel has been specially created, making passengers feel as if they’re traveling through an underwater world when inside the tunnel.

From December 28 to January 17 of the following year, the Shen’ao Railway Bike will open online reservations for free rides on Fridays (one session) and weekends (four sessions), while four free sessions will be available on weekdays for residents of Ruifang District.

Trial Operation Period: December 28, 2018 to January 17, 2019. Free rides available by reservation on Fridays to Sundays.
Official Operation Date: January 18, 2019
