Many people plan trips during the post-holiday travel off-season, whether joining group tours or traveling independently. With confirmed Wuhan pneumonia cases reported in multiple countries, concerns are inevitable. On the 30th, the Tourism Authority of Thailand issued a statement, assuring that all tourism activities will proceed as normal and advising tourists not to worry.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand emphasized that Thailand is working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other countries to further understand any infections caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) and to ensure its prevention and control.

There has been no outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) within Thailand. To date, the Thai Ministry of Public Health has confirmed 14 cases in Thailand (13 Chinese nationals and 1 Thai national). Among them, 5 individuals (4 Chinese and 1 Thai) have recovered and returned home. The other 9 Chinese patients remain in medical facilities. The Thai Ministry of Health has confirmed that all 14 cases in Thailand were infected with the coronavirus abroad. There have also been no reports of human-to-human transmission in Thailand.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to inform tourists and visitors in Thailand and around the world that upcoming major tourism events in Thailand will continue as scheduled, including:
The 2020 Amazing Thailand Bangkok Marathon on February 2
The 2020 GSB Thailand Ladies Open tennis tournament sponsored by EA, held in Hua Hin from February 10 to 16
The Honda 2020 LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Thailand Open in Pattaya from February 22 to 23
The PTT (short for Tourism Authority of Thailand and PTT Public Company Limited, Thailand’s national energy and petroleum company) 2020 MotoGP Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix in Buriram from March 20 to 22

Thailand is implementing intensive, continuous screening, testing, and surveillance for the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), especially at international entry points such as Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Krabi International Airports. Screening covers passengers and crew on all flights from China. National medical laboratories have been upgraded to real-time RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) lab technology, capable of producing blood test results within three hours. This is part of the ongoing intensive screening and disease surveillance for the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

In addition to airports, public transportation and areas such as the BTS Bangkok Skytrain, shopping malls, and hotels have enhanced hygiene measures, including additional cleaning and disinfection, as well as providing hand sanitizers. This includes all airline preventive measures, encompassing passenger screening, ground service measures, and in-flight service measures.

For tourists and visitors in Thailand, tourism operators have been instructed to closely monitor their customers for symptoms. If any tourist arriving from affected areas exhibits respiratory symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, wheezing, or a runny nose, operators should immediately take them to a hospital and inform the doctor of the individual’s recent travel history from China.

According to the 2019 Global Health Security Index website, Thailand ranks sixth among the best-prepared countries for epidemic prevention and will make every effort to combat this wave of the virus. Travelers with further questions may call the Disease Control Department hotline: 1422 or the Tourist Police hotline: 1155.
