The epidemic prevention for Wuhan pneumonia is currently at the secondary level (imported cases), with the total number of confirmed domestic cases reaching seven. Starting from January 28, a total of 18 million masks will be put on sale at the four major convenience store chains over three days, with an additional 6 million per day. Each person is limited to buying three masks, while taking face masks abroad is limited to five boxes.

The Central Epidemic Command Center announced on January 28 that two new imported cases of severe pneumonia caused by a novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Taiwan. Both are female mainland Chinese tourists in their 70s residing in Wuhan. They arrived in Taiwan together on January 22 for sightseeing, developed fever symptoms on January 25, sought medical attention, and were immediately reported to health authorities and admitted to negative-pressure isolation wards. Tests confirmed the cases on January 28. Neither case has pneumonia, and both are in stable condition and are currently in central Taiwan.

The Command Center also stated that airport quarantine staff recently reported that some passengers returning from China, although clearly showing symptoms such as coughing, did not truthfully fill out health declaration forms. Some even deliberately coughed at or laughed at the quarantine personnel. In response, the Command Center strongly condemned such behavior, emphasizing that epidemic prevention is no joke. The health declaration forms clearly state the responsibilities and penalties for those filling them out. Falsifying health declarations will lead to strict accountability.
Additionally, all travelers will go through a fever screening station. If any passenger shows respiratory symptoms, they will be asked to stay for a health assessment and will be immediately sent to the hospital for isolation and testing if conditions warrant. If there is evidence of obstruction of official duties, the Command Center will further investigate and hold those who do not comply with quarantine procedures accountable, prosecuting them according to the law.
According to Article 58 of the Infectious Disease Control Act, inbound travelers must honestly cooperate with quarantine authorities in providing and submitting relevant information and must comply with necessary quarantine measures. Those who provide false information, refuse, evade, or obstruct such procedures may be fined up to NT$150,000 under the law.
As of January 27, a total of 130 new suspected cases of severe pneumonia caused by a novel coronavirus have been reported domestically, bringing the cumulative number of reported cases to 530. This includes 7 confirmed cases, 269 cases ruled out, and the rest under isolation and testing (98 initial tests negative, the rest pending). The seven confirmed cases remain stable and are under continued hospital isolation. Except for contacts of the sixth and seventh confirmed cases still under follow-up, a total of 470 contacts of the other five confirmed cases have been identified. Among them, 16 have shown symptoms and have been reported (10 tested negative twice and have been ruled out, 6 are currently under testing).
As of January 27, China has reported a total of 4,515 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus, including 976 in critical condition and 106 deaths. Among the 31 mainland provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions (excluding Hong Kong and Macau), only the Tibet Autonomous Region has no confirmed or suspected cases. Given that cases continue to emerge and rise sharply across all regions in China, the epidemic remains severe.
The WHO has stated that the virus is capable of human-to-human transmission, increasing the risk of infection. On January 28, the Command Center expanded the Level 3 Travel Health Warning (Warning) to all regions of mainland China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau), advising the public to avoid all non-essential travel to these areas.
Currently, apart from Taiwan, a total of 62 confirmed cases have been reported internationally: Thailand (8), Hong Kong (8), Macau (7), the United States (5), Australia (5), Singapore (5), Malaysia (4), Japan (4), South Korea (4), France (3), Vietnam (2), Nepal (2), Canada (2), Cambodia (1), Sri Lanka (1), and Germany (1).
The Command Center once again urges travelers entering from abroad to voluntarily report to airport and port quarantine officers if they experience symptoms such as fever or cough. Within 14 days of returning home, if any of the above suspected symptoms occur, please call the toll-free epidemic prevention hotline 1922 (or 0800-001922), follow the instructions, wear a mask, and seek medical attention promptly. Be sure to inform your doctor of your travel history, occupation, contact history, and whether you were in a group setting (TOCC) to facilitate timely diagnosis and reporting.
