The Green Mountain Line of the Danhai Light Rail opened for a one-month free trial ride last December 24th. The public can take this opportunity to be among the first to experience it. So, what fun attractions are there along the Danhai Light Rail? Plan a holiday trip to Tamsui and check out these distinctive spots!

Tamsui boasts the highest density of well-preserved historic buildings and diverse cultural charm in northern Taiwan. Widely known landmarks such as Fort San Domingo, the Cheng Family Ancestral House—the only surviving farmhouse in Tamsui—and the local place of worship, Kuixing Temple, all bear witness to Tamsui’s long history. The historic Customs Wharf offers a view of Guanyin Mountain, set against the shimmering waters of the Tamsui River, creating a beautiful scenic picture.

During cherry blossom season, Tianyuan Temple in Tamsui sees a rotation of mountain cherries, tricolor cherries, winter cherries, and Japanese Yoshino cherries in bloom. Meanwhile, another popular spot, the Huwei Cherry Blossom Avenue—known for its yaezakura—is bustling with visitors when spring breezes blow in March. The Cathay Bridge, located between the light rail and the Cherry Blossom Avenue, is also a must-visit photography spot for train enthusiasts.

In addition to the Hongshulin Environmental Education Center, which is integrated with Taipei’s MRT system, the Hongshulin Nature Reserve also features ecological trails where you can enjoy the wetland environment. You can also cycle along the riverside trails to take in the scenery of the Tamsui River and the rich, unique ecosystem of the mangrove wetlands.

Miramar Cinemas has built a shopping mall combined with a cinema complex in the new Tamsui Danhai Township, called “Danhai Miramar Mall,” covering an area of about 8,000 ping. This cinema has also become Tamsui’s only movie theater. The “Miramar Danhai Cinema,” spanning over 3,000 ping, has one giant screen hall and eight standard digital halls. The cinema equipment in all halls matches the top-tier facilities of the Dazhi Miramar Cinema, making it a great destination for family outings during holidays.
