The “OWN THE WEEKEND” family-themed event jointly organized by Coleman and LeEco Outdoor was held successfully.
Escape the city and enjoy the outdoors on the weekend.
On November 14, Coleman collaborated with LeEco Outdoor to venture away from the city and into the Beijing suburbs for an extraordinary family outdoor experience.
The city—a rapidly expanding entity filled with pollution, smog, and congestion... This weekend, Beijing’s smog levels even reached hazardous levels. The organizers took dozens of families on a trip away from the urban environment to the relatively cleaner air of the Beijing suburbs—at the KBR Outdoor Base in Sidu, Fangshan District—where they participated in Coleman’s global campaign themed “OWN THE WEEKEND.”
Dozens of families left the city behind to enjoy the relatively fresh air of the Beijing suburbs.
The event was co-hosted by Coleman and LeEco Outdoor, with route support provided by Pantuo Outdoor and venue support from the KBR Base. Participating families were selected through a lottery system after online registration, with over a hundred people attending. Coleman supplied the families with delicious barbecue ingredients, high-quality equipment, professional outdoor gear, and expert guidance. The families were divided into three teams—blue, green, and red—for three exciting and fun competitions: tent pitching, cycling, and hiking. In the end, the blue team claimed first place, the green team came in second by a narrow margin, and the red team secured third.

Early on the 14th, the group of over a hundred arrived at the KBR Outdoor Base. As soon as they stepped off the bus, they were invigorated by the base’s beautiful scenery and fresh environment. Many remarked that the air here was noticeably better than in the city, and even though it was winter, the place offered a uniquely refreshing feel.

As a platform promoting healthy living, LeEco Outdoor meticulously prepared for this event. Cai Yingyuan, General Manager of the LeEco Outdoor Division, addressed the participants: “Stay active even in winter. We hope more families will come outdoors every weekend to enjoy nature.” Prior to the start, staff divided everyone into three teams—blue, red, and green—with similar numbers on each team. The competition was team-based, consisting of three events: tent pitching, cycling, and hiking. Each event was ranked based on completion time, with the fastest team earning 10 points, the second-fastest 8, and the third 6. The scores from all three events were then tallied to determine the overall rankings.
First, each family learned how to set up a sunshade canopy and a quick-pitch three-person tent under the guidance of Coleman professionals. They were also introduced to basic outdoor knowledge and Coleman’s newly launched high-quality gear, such as air mattresses. Teams worked nervously on setting up their campsites, with the whole family pitching in.

With the sound of the referee’s whistle, the tent-pitching competition began. Each team worked together with all their might, and before long, distinct canopies and tents were erected by all groups. The entire process reflected Coleman’s philosophy of joyful outdoor living, and the outstanding, user-friendly performance of its outdoor gear impressed all participants. In the end, the blue team took an early lead, winning first place in this event with the shortest setup time.
At noon, everyone began preparing cooking gear for a barbecue. The delicious food, combined with the mountain views and clear waters, delighted every family. Both kids and adults enjoyed the moment, embracing the joy of being close to nature.

After lunch came the second event: a cycling race. A professional fitness coach from Beijing Sport University led everyone in warm-up exercises, with every participant—including both adults and children—performing the moves attentively and enthusiastically. The cycling race was a relay, with five members per team. The race was extremely close, with kids cheering loudly for their family members. The margins between teams were minimal, but the blue team managed to claim first place once again.

Notably, the LeEco Super Bike was showcased on the track during the race. Its sleek design, powerful functionality, and smart features offered participants a revolutionary cycling experience. Contestants spoke highly of the bike, eagerly taking turns to observe, test ride, and learn more about it.
The final event, hiking, finally arrived. The roughly 3-kilometer course mainly consisted of dirt paths and shrubbery, featuring steep and rugged terrain. With a maximum elevation gain of 200 meters, the difficulty level was no joke. After an exciting opening ceremony, family members cheered each other on with phrases like “Go, Dad!” and “Be careful!”

After an arduous climb, the first finisher completed the course in 11 minutes, while everyone else finished in just over 30 minutes. The green team bounced back to win the hiking championship. At the finish line, all participants took a group photo. The breathtaking mountain views and wild persimmons along the trail were a delightful bonus. Although everyone had different skill levels, all finished the race. There were no losers—on such a challenging course, simply reaching the summit made everyone a hero.

Back at the base camp, the children from each family gave their hardworking parents a warm, loving hug, as the strong familial bond was deeply touched and elevated at that moment. Coleman and LeEco Outdoor conducted interviews with some of the families. Everyone shared that they are usually very busy with work and rarely get the chance to leave the city, even on weekends. They also expressed that they would take more opportunities to engage in outdoor activities and exercise in the future. Regarding Coleman’s professional equipment and services, the outdoor lifestyle advocated by Coleman, and the thoughtful guidance of the coaches, participants spoke highly, calling it a unique and unforgettable experience. In the end, the Blue Team won the championship with the highest overall score, and all participants received exquisite prizes provided by Coleman. Pantuo Outdoor also prepared shopping vouchers worth a total of ten thousand yuan for the contestants.

Coleman teams up with LeEco Outdoor to deliver a new outdoor experience
Wang Li, Marketing Manager of Coleman, said:“Over the past one hundred years, Coleman has been committed to the research and development of outdoor products, creating high-quality goods for consumers, striving to perfectly meet the diverse needs of those who pursue excellence and love life—whether for outdoor adventures or family time. From the very beginning, Coleman has played the role of an advocate and guide for a quality lifestyle. To put it precisely,Coleman doesn’t just sell products, but rather a positive, optimistic, and healthy outdoor lifestyle. We have always placed great emphasis on family groups. This year, whether in terms of market promotion or new product development, we have invested more human resources and effort, offering Chinese families a wide range of cool activities as well as distinctive new products. The collaboration between Coleman and LeEco Outdoor is innovative. OWN THE WEEKEND is an initiative launched globally by Coleman in 2016. We hope everyone can own their own weekends, and Coleman has long been advocating a lifestyle that brings people closer to nature and family.
Cai Yingyuan, General Manager of the Outdoor Business Unit at LeEco, strongly agreed with this view. He said: 'The OWN THE WEEKEND event aligns perfectly with the healthy living philosophy that LeEco Outdoor has always promoted. Today, we brought over 100 urbanites to the suburbs of Beijing for cycling, camping, hiking, and barbecuing—adults and children alike had a fantastic time. Leading the whole family outdoors to relax on weekends is what LeEco Outdoor and LeEco Sports advocate. Our goal is to get more people involved in sports. I’ve been friends with Coleman for many years, and similar events are held every year. The highlight of this event is its clear theme. Living in the city, people are usually very tired and only have weekends to take their children to the suburbs to enjoy nature. In China, this relatively new outdoor lifestyle is just getting started. Currently, our outdoor sports facilities and campsites are not yet fully developed. For decades, we focused mainly on economic growth, and now issues like environmental protection, air quality, and water quality are quite concerning.
Since these infrastructure and environmental conditions are not yet fully in place, we and Coleman should join hands to promote this lifestyle and drive changes in the living environment. Today, when I came to the Sidu Base, I had one thought: the landscape here is beautiful, but the only regret is the heavy fog. What we leave for future generations should be not just mountains and rivers, but also blue skies.
Coleman Marketing Manager Wang Li and LeEco Outdoor Business Unit General Manager Cai Yingyuan discuss the significance of the event
Going forward, we should remain optimistic. More and more people in China are crossing the $10,000 annual income threshold. Once income exceeds $10,000, people tend to shift their everyday spending from food and basic needs toward travel and enjoying life. As most Chinese gradually become more affluent, owning a private car is no longer a novelty. We should be filling our car trunks with air mattresses, coolers, and camping gear—letting our children enjoy nature and the outdoors with us. Once again, thank you to Coleman and the OWN THE WEEKEND themed event. We believe that as China’s overall environment continues to improve, there will surely be more such events, and our outdoor industry will welcome a springtime.
Coleman’s global “OWN THE WEEKEND” themed event will continue to collaborate with LeEco Outdoor next year, forming a long-term project spanning the entire year. Including a Family Season, Water Activities Season, Outdoor Cycling Season, and French Cuisine Season, even more rich and diverse content will be added. Coleman will continue to uphold the eternal theme of “love” and keep developing with it.
