The Central Epidemic Command Center announced the eighth confirmed case of severe pneumonia with novel pathogens in the country, a man in his 50s from central Changhua. He is a family member of the previously confirmed fifth imported case and sought medical attention on January 26 after developing cough symptoms. The diagnosis was confirmed on January 28, and it is believed to be a household infection. Currently, the patient’s condition is stable, and the hospital and local health authorities have followed relevant procedures for contact tracing and other preventive measures. To better enforce home quarantine and home isolation, smart technology will be used to assist in epidemic prevention efforts.

According to the Command Center, as of 4:00 p.m. on January 28, there were 52 newly reported cases of severe pneumonia with novel pathogens in the country, bringing the total number of reported cases to 578. Test results showed 8 confirmed cases, 321 ruled out, 75 preliminarily tested negative, with the rest still pending. Additionally, 9 previously reported cases of pneumonia with unexplained causes have all been ruled out.
Globally, there have been 69 confirmed cases (excluding Taiwan), spread across 16 countries, with 3 new countries added compared to the previous day: Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Germany. The distribution is as follows: Thailand 14 cases, Hong Kong 8 cases, Macau 7 cases, the United States 5 cases, Australia 5 cases, Singapore 5 cases, Malaysia 4 cases, Japan 6 cases, South Korea 4 cases, France 3 cases, Vietnam 2 cases, Canada 2 cases, Nepal 1 case, Cambodia 1 case, Sri Lanka 1 case, and Germany 1 case.

Fan Weiqi originally posted on her personal Facebook criticizing Premier Su Tseng-chang’s “one-month mask export ban” epidemic prevention policy. The original post has since been deleted: “Our premier actually banned mask exports for a month. What a vulgar, despicable, and shameless act. Did I hear that wrong? Is this official even human? What is happening right now?! No decent person would be this inhumane at a time like this!! I hope the news I heard is fake.”

Shanghai-based internet personality and Taiwanese daughter-in-law, Advertising Sister, also posted that China does not lack masks but that manufacturers are hoarding them to drive up prices. Regardless, as the Wuhan pneumonia outbreak continues to escalate, everyone should take initiative and comply with epidemic prevention policies, prioritizing no loopholes in containment.
In response to the continuously increasing number of novel coronavirus pneumonia cases in mainland China, the Central Epidemic Command Center convened various ministries on January 25 to discuss restrictions on travelers from mainland China. On January 27, a seventh restriction was added: “For the three types of tourism: starting from 00:00 on January 27, the acceptance of applications for entry will be temporarily suspended; those who have already received entry permits will have their entry postponed.”
