It has been reported that Cashbox, the leading KTV operator in Taiwan, is merging with Holiday KTV to compete with the rising Star Gathering Point. Cashbox has 16 outlets across Taiwan, while Holiday KTV has 52. Both are publicly listed companies. After the merger, some netizens jokingly referred to it as potentially becoming "Good Cabinet" (implying 'too expensive'), while others playfully suggested it should be renamed "CashLeDi" (a blend of Cashbox and Holiday KTV).

Cashbox (Cashbox Partyworld, Cashbox Enterprise Co., Ltd. 8359) was established in March 1989, with its first store opening on Linsen North Road in Taipei. It quickly rose to prominence in the market with its private-room karaoke format. Starting in 1994, it expanded into overseas markets and published a magazine under the same name. In 2017, it withdrew from the Chinese mainland market and in February 2019 announced the acquisition of Holiday KTV for NT$6.7 billion.

Holiday KTV (HOLIDAY KTV, Holiday KTV Co., Ltd. 9943) opened its first outlet in 1993 on Minsheng East Road in Taipei, becoming Taiwan's first KTV company to adopt a computerized song selection and playback system. Cashbox acquired external shares of Holiday KTV at NT$67.7 per share. Whether the merged entity will undergo brand restructuring or maintain dual branding has also become a hot topic among netizens.

Another relatively newer player, Star Gathering Point, emphasizes food, culture, creativity, and fashion styles. Compared to Cashbox, which mainly attracts office workers, and Holiday KTV, which appeals more to students, Star Gathering Point is also competing for shares in the KTV and banquet event markets. From November 2009 to January 2010, Star Gathering Point rapidly launched Banqiao Branch, Ximen Branch, and Fuxing Branch, and combined them with dining restaurants offering Hong Kong-style dim sum, teppanyaki, hot pot, and marinated snacks. It emphasized singing stage equipment along with comprehensive entertainment options, reflecting the current direction of Taiwan’s KTV market.

The merger of Cashbox and Holiday KTV is set to significantly expand its operational territory into southern Taiwan. Both the business strategy and the development of Star Gathering Point are issues of concern to consumers. Some netizens joke that if the merger really results in something being "too expensive," they will switch to singing at Star Gathering Point — showing that cost remains a major consideration for consumers even when seeking fun.
