Recently, a mysterious competition has been making waves in the skiing community, drawing the attention of many ski enthusiasts. Not only has the event invited numerous big names from the snow scene—such as X-Fox (Wang Zhizhi?), Xiao Hu (He Wei), and Zhu Hong—to lend their support, but the prize money also amounts to as much as 140,000 RMB, making it one of the most generously funded mass-participation skiing competitions in China. It is reported that this mysterious event is the first independently developed winter sports IP competition by LeEco Sports—the 2016 X-Dragon Snow Challenge.
While the NBA, CBA, and various European leagues are in full swing, LeEco Sports is also seizing the tail end of the first snow season following Beijing’s successful bid for the Winter Olympics. In early March, it will deliver a thrilling winter sports extravaganza for skiing enthusiasts across the country.
The Secret Garden of Wintopia Ski Resort in Chongli is the venue for snow events at the 2022 Winter Olympics. With its professional slopes and comprehensive facilities, it is a dream destination for skiers nationwide. The inaugural Snow Challenge will take place over two days, March 5 and 6, at Wintopia Ski Resort. The competition consists of slalom and pursuit events, and it is expected that around 800 experienced skiers and snowboarders from across the country will heed the call to compete, battling it out with skill and speed for a share of the 140,000 RMB prize pool. Registration is now open, and skiers aged 18 and above can sign up on the LeEco Sports website right away. Moreover, during the event, LeEco Sports will team up with FISE (Hurricane Extreme Sports Company) to stage an exhibition of tricks by international pro skiers for all participants to enjoy.
As China’s first event combining mass skiing competitions, trendy music performances, and showcases by top international athletes, the Snow Challenge will also feature a special snow music carnival onsite. Attendees can enjoy activities such as trying out ski simulators and participating in ski skill challenges. Popular post-90s artist Wu Mochou, known for her unique style, along with Yaolé—the only electronic band in China—will also make appearances at the Snow Challenge. These two acts, known for their “magic,” energy, and fashion-forward appeal, will lead thousands of skiing enthusiasts in some snowy mischief.
Prior to the main event, the X-Dragon Masters Open Class will kick off first. A coaching lineup led by X-Fox will be on hand at Wintopia Ski Resort on January 30, offering free professional guidance to both complete beginners and more advanced skiers eager to learn from the pros.
Top-tier slopes, high-caliber athletes, legendary pros, and exciting celebrities… and that’s still not all the Snow Challenge has to offer. At the end of 2015, LeEco’s dedicated winter sports channel, Leski, officially launched. The Snow Challenge on March 5 and 6 will be broadcast simultaneously across multiple platforms via Leski on the LeEco Sports app, LeEco TV Super TVs, LeEco Superphones, and LeEco Video. Additionally, the event will showcase LeEco Sports’ first UGC (user-generated content) community, along with an upcoming sports action camera called “Jinqu” (FunCam). Skiers at the event can team up with friends to create their own live skiing broadcasts through the UGC platform. True to its playful nature, LeEco Sports will also use the FunCam in the production of the event’s public broadcast feed. Drawing inspiration from the onboard camera perspective used in Formula 1, LeEco Sports plans to mount action cameras on competitors, incorporating first-person-view live streams into the public broadcast to give viewers an immersive, athlete’s-eye experience of alpine skiing.
