According to a report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the livestock industry accounts for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions annually, making it one of the culprits of global warming. Longtime Hong Kong resident and Golden Horse Award-winning actress Lin Chi-ling, who rarely returns to Taiwan, attended the press conference as the Greater China ambassador for Green Monday, vowing to promote the green eating trend in her “hometown.”

In addition to being the Greater China ambassador for Green Monday, Lin Chi-ling is also the brand’s “Green Living Curator.” She has curated two large-scale art exhibitions in Hong Kong and plans to organize a series of environmental activities that everyone can participate in.

Green Monday is a Hong Kong-based social enterprise founded on April 22, 2012 (Earth Day), and has been ranked among China’s top 50 most promising startups. Founder David Yeung has long been dedicated to promoting Earth’s environmental conservation. Aware of the threats posed by global warming—including rising sea levels and a noticeable increase in average temperatures—he established Green Monday to encourage the public, schools, and businesses to adopt a weekly meat-free day.

The Green Restaurant Partner Program is one of Green Monday’s key initiatives. Over 1,000 restaurants in Hong Kong have joined, with the only requirement being to offer at least three vegetarian dishes on their menu. This makes it easier for the public to participate in the “Meat-Free Mondays” movement and contribute to environmental protection. Green Monday works closely with partner restaurants to organize events, and also provides consultation, promotion, and PR support. Joining the Green Restaurant Partner Program not only brings new customers to partner restaurants but also allows them to fulfill their social responsibilities.
