Make the most of the Qingming and Children’s Day holiday in Tainan with these top family-friendly spots!

The highly anticipated Qingming and Children’s Day holiday is almost here—still not sure where to take the kids? The Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau has created a convenient “Family Fun Guide” for the holiday, highlighting Tainan’s latest exciting activities and a variety of kid-friendly deals. Be sure to jot them down!

1. Yuguang Island Art Festival
Known as “Taiwan’s most beautiful beach,” Yuguang Island’s Crescent Bay boasts stunning seascapes and dreamy sunset views. Starting March 30, the island will host the 23-day “2019 Yuguang Island Art Festival” under the theme “A New Island Paradise.” Seven artist teams have been invited to use the island’s natural landscape as their canvas, creating 10 site-specific art installations.

Each weekend during the event also features a “New Island Market,” dance performances, band and singer acts, as well as workshops. For those seeking a deeper experience, guided tours are available twice daily on Saturdays and Sundays with the “Yuguang Mini Tour.” Nearby, the newly opened “Xinyonghua Night Market” offers a feast of over 400 food stalls—there’s no shortage of Tainan street eats!

2. Mini Taiwan Lantern Festival – “Light Up Tainan, ‘Council’ Show”
This year’s Taiwan Lantern Festival, held in Pingtung, received widespread acclaim. In response, the Tainan City Council has borrowed lantern displays from the main event to launch a mini version—“Light Up Tainan, ‘Council’ Show” (March 15 – April 14). Highlights include a 70-meter-long light tunnel, nearly 50 lanterns, and two oversized, adorable inflatable bears outdoors. Visitors can also check out a 2.6-meter-tall classic teddy bear mascot in the council’s first-floor lobby. From Monday to Thursday during the exhibition period, street performers will entertain visitors while they admire the lights.

Additionally, two lanterns themed around Tainan’s Guanziling—displayed at Guanziling Baoquan Bridge Park and the front plaza of Mt. Phoenix Temple—were part of the 2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival. Through artistic light sculptures, these displays showcase Guanziling’s local beliefs, scenic spots, regional cuisine, and Taiwan’s only mud hot springs, making the area even more vibrant at night. The Guanziling Hot Spring area offers the perfect combo of “famous springs + beautiful scenery + delicious food,” and the nearby 175 Coffee Highway serves up rich brews, perfect for enjoying the views. It's an ideal destination for travelers visiting in the spring blossoms season.
