China Jiangxi News Network, reporterLi Yunhui Hu Panreport: What was the hottest topic this summer in 2016? Aside from the much-anticipated college entrance exam essay questions, it was also the rare chance to compete in the first-ever city orienteering challenge.
This summer, the “International Trade Real Estate · Jiangxi Run 2016 First City Orienteering Competition” is set to thrill you. The first team-based activity combining health, leisure, and entertainment is about to explode onto the scene. As of 12:00 on June 8, 2016, the number of registrations has exceeded 8,000, making it an unprecedentedly large-scale event.
It is understood that this competition has opened five distinct themed routes. The routes will follow a random team grouping system, and participants will only discover the specific route and mysterious tasks after the challenge begins. All mysterious tasks must be completed in order to win. Reporters inquired multiple times with the organizers and learned that the second route will feature Shengjin Pagoda as a main checkpoint. Shengjin Pagoda, with its classic artistic style of southern Chinese architecture, is simple and elegant, and has a history of over 1,100 years since its construction in the Tang Dynasty, serving as a carrier of historical information. It is also known as the “guardian of the city against fire and water,” and is considered a treasured landmark of Nanchang. Participants are guaranteed both fun and leisure while exploring Nanchang’s historic buildings and rich cultural heritage.
As the event draws near, there are only 10 days left until the opening of the “International Trade Real Estate · Jiangxi Run 2016 First City Orienteering Competition.” Note that registered participants should collect their race kits (including competition uniforms, bibs, team flags, portable backpacks, etc.) from the first-floor lobby of the Jiangxi Provincial Sports Bureau Guesthouse at 28 Fuzhou Road, Nanchang City, between 9:00 and 17:00 on June 13–15, 2016.
The organizers emphasized to reporters, “Teams will be randomly assigned to routes by the organizing committee. All teams must collectively pass through designated checkpoints within the stipulated time, complete relevant tasks, and achieve the fastest time based on checkpoint timing records. The top 15 teams on each route will be awarded prizes or certificates.” In addition, each team must designate a captain as the team leader and attend a pre-race training session arranged by the organizing committee. The captain must arrive at the starting point by 8:00 on June 18, check in, gather the team members, and ensure all participants arrive and check in before 8:30. Teams will then enter the designated waiting area and depart in sequence according to instructions, and must reach the finish line before the cutoff time of 15:30.
It is introduced that the competition will use electronic timing chips. Each team will be provided with one electronic chip, which must be worn by the team captain. Any missed or incorrect usage of the electronic chip during the race will result in disqualification, and the chip must be returned at the finish line timing station after the race. For ease of judging, all participants must wear the uniforms provided by the organizing committee and display their bibs visibly on the chest throughout the race. Additionally, due to task requirements, each team must carry at least one mobile phone with camera and internet capabilities, as tasks will involve the use of apps such as WeChat and Weibo.
It is worth mentioning that all teams must complete tasks in groups of five, and the location of the next checkpoint can only be revealed upon reaching the current one, with no substitutions allowed mid-race. Teams may only travel on foot or run, and may use urban public transport (limited to subways and buses). The use of private cars or chartered vehicles will result in disqualification. In cases where crowded checkpoints cause delays, participants must wait patiently and complete tasks in order. All participants must abide by public order, traffic regulations, and competition rules; violations will lead to disqualification. All transportation, maps, communication, meals, and other expenses incurred during the race must be covered by participants themselves.
It is reported that if any team has objections to the race results, the team captain must submit a written appeal to the Competition Arbitration Committee after the event. The Arbitration Committee will only accept written appeals. Such appeals must be submitted within one hour after the race; oral or other forms of appeal will not be accepted.
Given the high summer temperatures, the organizers also remind participants to bring items such as band-aids and motion sickness medication as needed, as well as rain gear or heat relief supplies depending on the weather. Participants may also enhance their physical training as appropriate before the race.
