Lately, Old K has been hanging out most often in Dalongdong, but you really can’t blame him — there’s just so much delicious food here. Today, he’s visiting a fish ball shop.

This is the one: Dalongdong Fish Balls.

There aren’t many seats inside, but Old K arrived just before noon, so it wasn’t too crowded. They only serve three things here — super simple: dry noodles, fried rice vermicelli, and fish ball soup. For the dry noodles, you can choose between thick or thin noodles, and the fish ball soup can be customized with added noodles or glass noodles. Old K hadn’t been here in ages, so of course, he ordered all three XD

That’s right — one dry noodle, one fried rice vermicelli, and one fish ball soup.

Dry Noodles (Small, NT$30) – Thick Noodles
Luckily, Old K chose the small bowl — their “small” is actually quite generous XD The dry noodles are more like Taiwanese-style zhajiangmian (noodles with soybean paste), as they have minced meat and broad bean paste on top. It’s not too greasy and actually quite tasty, plus it’s super cheap.

Fried Rice Vermicelli (Small, NT$30)
The portion of fried rice vermicelli isn’t as big as the dry noodles, but it’s still pretty decent. The flavor has a garlicky pork lard taste, but not too much lard is used, so it ends up surprisingly refreshing. You can finish the whole plate without feeling overly greasy. There’s spicy pickled cabbage on the table that you can add, but Old K’s not a fan XD

If you prefer a stronger flavor, you can add soy sauce with chili — it’s not too salty but quite spicy. A spoonful over the rice vermicelli makes it even tastier!

It tastes great even added to the dry noodles!

Mixed Fish Ball Soup (NT$45)
They offer two types of fish balls here. Old K went for the mixed option, so he got both kinds: small ones without filling, and large ones stuffed with pork. There were three big and five small ones in the bowl — great value!

Let’s start with the broth. It’s a smooth, rich bone broth, flavored with celery, pepper, and a hint of preserved mustard greens. This broth is delicious!

The small fish balls are soft with a slight bounce and have a clear fish flavor, though Old K prefers fish balls that are a bit bouncier.

The large stuffed fish balls are really big — when you bite into them, juicy pork filling bursts into your mouth, paired with a chewy exterior. So good. Thankfully, Old K finished his noodles and rice vermicelli first before eating these, so they weren’t scalding hot. If you eat them right when they’re served, you might burn your mouth, so be careful!

Old K’s Little Tips:
Can’t emphasize enough: Dalongdong is such a great place. Old K really likes these stuffed fish balls. The dry noodles and rice vermicelli are solid, and most importantly, the portions are generous and the prices are low. If you want tasty and affordable eats, Dalongdong won’t let you down!
