Explore Dongshi’s Green Tunnel – A Fun Day Trip in This Charming Town

Dongshi Riverside Park in Taichung is located under the Dongshi Bridge in Dongshi District and is a popular spot for locals to exercise and take walks. To make Dongshi Riverside Park a new highlight of the mountain city, Taichung City - has revamped the surrounding sidewalks, bike paths, and lawns, and added lighting facilities, transforming the park into a dazzling attraction at night.

The Cultural Artifact Museum of Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park was renovated from the old Dongshi Railway Station. Its exterior features Hakka architectural style, and the park also showcases themed exhibits on food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment related to Hakka culture. These exhibits introduce local industries, language, and humanities, highlighting the unique characteristics of Hakka culture.

The Fenglv Corridor is the first bicycle-only path in Taiwan converted from an abandoned railway, and it's also the country’s only enclosed bicycle-exclusive lane. Stretching approximately 12 kilometers, besides offering a beautiful green-tunnel-like shaded pathway, it also connects scenic spots such as Shihkang Dam, Shihkang Railway Station, and Meizi Iron Bridge. The route offers picturesque scenery along the way, with lush greenery planted on both sides, creating a vibrant, verdant atmosphere that resembles a “green Da’an River,” making it a new landmark for Dongshi tourism.

The annual Hakka festival event “Dongshi Xindingji Festival” is held every year at the Dongshi Hakka Cultural Park. In Hakka tradition, glutinous rice cakes are called “ji,” and the birth of a baby boy is celebrated as “adding a son (添丁),” marked by making xindingji. The birth of a baby girl is called “half a son (生半丁),” and celebrated with peach ji or qianjin ji.
