“To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Tokyu Railway announced the return of the ‘Lucky Cat Tram (Lucky Inviting Cat Tram)’ on May 12, 2019—previously running in 2017. Its ultra-cute interior and exterior design have cat lovers’ hearts racing.

The design of the ‘Lucky Cat Tram’ is inspired by Gotokuji Temple, the birthplace of the Maneki-neko (lucky cat), located along the Setagaya Line. In recent years, it has become one of the must-visit spots for travelers to Japan who love lucky cats. The ‘Lucky Cat Tram’ debuted in 2017 for the 110th anniversary of the Tamagawa Electric Railway and will now run again for the 50th anniversary of the Setagaya Line.

Both the inside and outside of the Lucky Cat Tram feature numerous depictions of lucky cats. Not only does the exterior showcase many adorable lucky cat designs, but the front of the tram is also painted to resemble a lucky cat face with cat ears, while the hand straps inside are shaped like cats and the floor features cute cat paw prints.
