Shanghai, Oct. 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday, 3M, a global diversified science and innovation company, together with the Green Travel Foundation, hosted the "Yeah Run. Shine Differently" urban safety night run at the Xuhui Riverside Green Space in Shanghai. As 3M's inaugural safety night run, it attracted robust participation from roughly 150 individuals, including prominent Shanghai running groups, night running enthusiasts, and 3M China employees. The event placed no emphasis on ranking or speed, focusing instead on promoting safe night running as a public welfare initiative. It aimed to encourage more runners to uphold a healthy lifestyle while also raising awareness about the importance of nighttime run safety and enhancing individual safety consciousness.

Yesterday, 3M, a global diversified science and innovation company, in collaboration with the Green Travel Foundation, held the "Yeah Run. Shine Differently" urban safety night run at the Xuhui Riverside Green Space in Shanghai. This was 3M’s first ever safety night run, drawing around 150 enthusiastic participants comprising notable Shanghai running clubs, night-time joggers, and 3M China staff.

With accelerating urban life tempos, night running has become a popular way for city dwellers to unwind and relieve stress after work. However, safety concerns arising from limited nighttime visibility and running conditions have drawn attention from various sectors. Ms. Yang Tong, Vice President of 3M China and Hong Kong’s Safety and Signs Business, stated: “As a leading brand in safety protection, 3M aims to leverage our extensive experience and high-quality products in personal protective equipment and reflective materials to offer runners enhanced safety. The 3M Urban Safety Night Run not only provides an opportunity for running enthusiasts to come together and share their passion but also seeks to raise genuine awareness about the critical importance of night running safety.”

Everyone geared up and ready—3M’s first urban safety night run is about to begin

Notably, 3M’s reflective materials played a significant role in the night run. Utilizing high-refractive-index glass bead retroreflection technology, 3M’s reflective materials create a particularly bright visual effect, thereby improving visibility for those nearby during nighttime or in emergency situations. This enhances overall safety and effectively helps prevent accidents. This product feature substantially improves the safety level of night running. Moving forward, 3M will continue innovating to offer more safety products for those pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

Furthermore, throughout the planning process of this event, the China Association for NGO Cooperation’s Green Travel Fund provided strong support to 3M. Mr. Liu Zhe, Executive Director-General of the Green Travel Fund, commented: “We have always been committed to advocating for scientific fitness, encouraging low-carbon and green lifestyles. We are delighted to see more people participating in night running, yet we also hope everyone pays greater attention to personal safety during exercise. Here, we call on more companies like 3M—those that value corporate social responsibility—to contribute to the safety of public green transportation.”

The run was specially held at Xuhui Riverside Green Space, once one of the selected segments of the Shanghai International Marathon and widely recognized among runners as the most picturesque running spot in the city. The course spanned 4.5 kilometers. To ensure participants could complete the route safely and enjoyably, 3M undertook comprehensive preparatory measures. Customized reflective night running gear—including reflective vests and wristbands—was provided to all participants to boost nighttime visibility and safety. Additionally, professional fitness trainers were invited to lead participants in warm-up exercises prior to the run to help prevent injuries. At the sound of the starting gun, runners clad in variously colored night running outfits dashed from the starting line, celebrating the autumn breeze with bursts of energy. Along the route, 3M staff held mileage glow signs and safety indicators, cheering on and supporting runners throughout. The night run concluded successfully amid laughter and joy.
