Another old store disappears! Tianmu McDonald's Closes Down Countdown

The streetscape of the Tianmu shopping district has undergone many changes in recent years — from Häagen-Dazs, which had a standalone garden-style store (now replaced by a Starbucks outlet), to Eslite Bookstore Tianmu, which closed in 2015 after 19 years of operation. The Starbucks at Tianmu Loyalty Store, near Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tianmu, operated for 10 years before closing at the end of 2018 due to lease expiration. Subsequent tenants have also been cafés. Many beloved shops and street scenes that hold deep memories for Tianmu locals have gradually changed along with the opening and closing of these businesses.

Tianmu McDonald's is located on Tianmu West Road and has been in business for 33 years. The reason for its closure is also said to be the rising rent, with rumors suggesting that a mainland Chinese hotpot brand will take over the space. It seems that the phenomenon of high rents driving out long-standing stores will continue to occur.

The main seating area of this Tianmu McDonald's is on the lower level, featuring American-style sofas and uniquely designed individual booths, which give it a distinctive character. There are also several outdoor seats and umbrellas, adding a casual and relaxing atmosphere.

In recent years, the most popular attraction in the Tianmu shopping district has been its weekend markets, which follow the flea market and creative market formats. Many shops along Tianmu Roundabout and beyond Section 7 of Zhongshan North Road have also changed frequently. Although Tianmu McDonald's is open 24 hours, customers who want to revisit it soon should hurry — time is running out.
