A Taiwanese-American girl with hearing loss bravely ventures to Switzerland and becomes a tourism ambassador

The in-depth travel show “Follow Alana 爱游台湾,” hosted by sunny Taiwanese-American girl Alana (Zheng Ya-wen) and produced by a Taiwanese team, has once again won the Telly Awards, known as the “Oscar of American television.”

Riding on this momentum, the production team launched a brand-new season of “Follow Alana 爱游世界－瑞士之旅” in June. In addition to showcasing Switzerland’s unique natural wonders, Alana also became the first Taiwanese travel show host to sit on the grass with the President of the Swiss Confederation during the National Day celebration and to conduct an up-close interview with Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer. The show’s in-depth and creatively unique content earned recognition from the Switzerland Tourism Board, which today appointed Alana as the “2019 Swiss Summer Tourism Ambassador.” Through captivating footage and Alana’s distinctive perspective, Taiwanese audiences are invited to discover Switzerland’s breathtaking natural scenery and moving stories.

Born with profound congenital hearing loss, Alana has faced a challenging learning journey and life tests. Her passionate and positive attitude in exploring the beauty of the world has won widespread affection from audiences. This trip to Switzerland not only allowed her to personally experience a variety of Swiss-style outdoor challenges, including alpine hiking, paragliding, and cliff walking, but she also used her fluent English to delve into the centuries-old craftsmanship of mechanical watch movements in Switzerland’s watchmaking hub, explored daily life in Zurich to uncover why it’s ranked as one of the best cities to live in the world, and even had an exclusive conversation with tennis legend Roger Federer to understand his motivation for founding a foundation that helps early childhood education—revealing a softer side of the tennis star off the court.
