Covering an area of approximately 5.9 hectares, Yuli Wetland is rich in ecological resources. It utilizes two ecological ponds to filter, absorb, decompose, and purify wastewater before discharging it into the Xiuguluan River. After years of ecological cycling, the ponds have become highly biodiverse, attracting migratory birds such as wild geese and ducks from Siberia that come to Taiwan for the winter. Hidden for 20 years without development, the secret spot “Jili Pond” lies beneath Mashih Mountain in Guangfu Township. After renovation by the township office and the Council of Agriculture’s Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, the area now features well-manicured lawns and stacked stone structures, with scenic views such as the Moon Reflection Arch Bridge and Penglai Fairy Island. Once shrouded in mystery, it has now emerged as a new recreational spot in Hualien and the fifth pearl at the foot of Mashih Mountain. The five pearls of Guangfu Township are: North Jili Pond, South Forest Park, East Laso’ai, West Mataian, and Central Sugar Refinery.
