Chatime and Tiger Sugar have achieved success in expanding into the Japanese market in recent years, reigniting the bubble tea craze in Japan. On June 28, Chatime opened at Shibuya 109, one of Tokyo’s most popular destinations among young people, drawing crowds all day long. The wait to buy a signature bubble tea can be nearly two hours, attracting attention from Japanese media.

Chatime’s second store in Shibuya is also set to open grandly on July 10, and is expected to attract bubble tea enthusiasts coming to pay homage.

Chatime is also one of the driving forces behind the unique social media trend “#タピ活” (#BubbleTeaLife) in Japan, creating a special bubble tea economy. According to a Socialwire survey in Japan, the hashtag “#タピ活” generated nearly 150,000 posts in just three months. Among the intense competition among Taiwanese bubble tea brands, Chatime ranks in the top five on the hashtag, demonstrating its popularity among the Japanese.

Targeting female consumers and their love for photogenic products, Chatime promotes items with more appealing visuals. The store design also features large 3D photo walls, using an innovative and fun brand positioning to capture the attention of young customers.
