Although Typhoon Mun will not directly affect Taiwan, the development of a low-pressure system and strong convective cloud activity can lead to short periods of intense rainfall. On the evening of the 2nd, heavy rain had already fallen in the Greater Taipei area, Keelung and the northern coast, as well as regions south of Tainan, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Be cautious of lightning strikes and strong gusts.
The central pressure of the typhoon is 992 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 18 m/s, and maximum gusts reaching 25 m/s. The radius of seven-level winds is 80 km. Those planning to travel to Hainan Island or Guangdong should pay special attention to local weather updates.
On Wednesday and Thursday, there is a chance of long-period swells along the northern coast of Keelung, the eastern half of Taiwan (including Orchid Island and Green Island), the Hengchun Peninsula, and the southwestern coastal areas. Exercise caution when engaging in coastal activities.
From Friday to next Tuesday (July 5–9), under the influence of strong southwest winds, central and southern Taiwan will continue to experience frequent rainfall (yes, that’s what the weather bureau said). Showers or thunderstorms are likely throughout the day and night, with a chance of heavy rain or localized torrential rain. Other regions will see mostly cloudy weather, with localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon.
