Super Fun Giant Whale Sand Sculpture Music Festival & Explore Central Taiwan’s Coast to the Fullest

In summer, besides swimming, sand sculptures are another major highlight at the beach. The north has Fulong, the south has Kenting, and Taichung’s “Da’an Sand Sculpture Music Festival” is no less impressive—with a stunning 12-meter-tall whale sand sculpture, plus a series of side events such as markets, concerts, and challenge activities, making for an exciting trip along central Taiwan’s coast.

This year’s sand sculpture creation is themed “Hooray for Da’an ~ Whale Fantasy Party.” The old name for Da’an Harbor was “Sea Elephant Cave Harbor,” where whales were said to have appeared. “Sea Elephant” is the Hokkien term for whale. Drawing on marine and terrestrial ecology and sea god legends, and combining the whale imagery of Da’an Harbor, 18 exquisite 3D sand sculptures are linked together to create the largest “Sea Elephant” main sculpture in the festival’s history.

Every Saturday during the event, there will also be a Taichung gourmet food truck market, Ocean Voices concert, Earth Pilgrimage stamp-collecting activity, and side programs like finding the Sea Elephant King LINE stickers.
