New Instagrammable Spot in Tainan: The Adorable Ni-Song Family for Healing and Photo Ops

Following the Tainan Art Museum, Tainan has a new attraction—the Southern Branch of the National Museum of Prehistory, located next to the Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration. Recently, it unveiled an outdoor installation art piece titled “Ni-Song Family Through Time and Space.” The cute and endearing Ni-Song Family has become popular among netizens, making it a new hot spot for photos and check-ins.

Covering an area of approximately 2.44 hectares, the Southern Branch of the National Museum of Prehistory preserves and displays artifacts unearthed from archaeological sites in the Southern Taiwan Science Park. The “Ni-Song Family” consists of human-faced pottery figurines from the Ni-Song period, excavated from the Dàoyé site. Their adorable expressions are heartwarming and healing, attracting many visitors to take group photos.

This time, using high-tech scanning and printing techniques, the figures have been enlarged, reproduced, and reimagined. This includes the Ni-Song Family—Dad, Mom, two children, and a pet dog—bringing thousand-year-old primitive pottery figurines into today’s world. They are dressed in futuristic, surreal outfits, conveying the concept of human civilization evolving and passing the torch through time.

The Southern Branch of the National Museum of Prehistory was designed and built by master architect Yung Ho Chang. Its grand and design-forward exterior has also become one of the latest photo spots for travelers visiting Tainan.
