Ryukyu Shinsen – The Taiwan branches of Tonchinkan operate as a “ramen izakaya.” In addition to their signature “Gender Ramen,” they also offer distinctive Okinawan izakaya dishes. This time, due to the expiration of the lease at the Tonchinkan Ramen Unified Times Mall store, the outlet will cease operations from July 6 to July 27, and is running a buy one get one free promotion on all ramen items as a parting gift.

“Ryukyu Shinsen from Tonchinkan” is famous for claiming to serve the world’s first ramen with a “gender.” It offers a rich pork bone broth for the “male flavor” and a light, smooth salt-flavored chicken broth for the “female flavor.” The names “male flavor” and “female flavor” were born out of the diverse opinions during the naming process for the pork bone and salt-flavored chicken broths. The creative names were unexpectedly well-received and have been used ever since.

When Tonchinkan Ramen first arrived in Taiwan, it generated a lot of buzz and drew large crowds.
