Capybara Alert！Taipei Zoo’s Tropical Rainforest Pavilion Opens After 13 Years

The Taipei Zoo’s “Tropical Rainforest Pavilion,” which took 13 years to build, has opened, offering visitors the chance to observe rare animals up close. Among the highlights are the extremely popular capybaras and the Malayan tapirs, whose cute looks have charmed both children and adults.

The Tropical Rainforest Pavilion took 13 years from planning, design, and construction to completion, overcoming environmental and conservation regulations. It finally opens to the public, covering approximately 1.5 hectares. The area includes six outdoor zones and one indoor pavilion designed with an armadillo-shaped steel structure.

The indoor pavilion features large trees to recreate a tropical rainforest atmosphere, with a variety of native Central and South American bromeliads planted. It is home to animals such as sloths, Azara’s night monkeys, coarse-haired dwarf lemurs, and pygmy slow lorises. The outdoor zones are inhabited by capybaras, sloths, pygmy slow lorises, and many other endangered species that visitors can observe closely.

To maintain visitor experience quality, the zoo will distribute entry tickets. A “Pangolin Pavilion Ticket” booth will be set up at the entrance, distributing timed entry tickets to visitors. Each day, the pavilion will accommodate up to 19,200 visitors, with 400 people allowed in every 10 minutes.
