Located in the alleys of Da’an District, “Auntie Gu’s” (姑妈咪) takes its name as a homophone for beef noodles in Taiwanese Hokkien. The neon sign outside reading “Eat my noodles” (吃我下面) is incredibly memorable.

The exterior features a bold red color scheme, paired with simple potted plants and a vintage bicycle, while English text on the glass windows combines these very different retro elements for a uniquely striking visual impact.

As a specialty beef noodle shop, of course the focus is on the beef noodles. The shop offers two types of broth: clear stewed and red braised. The boss pays great attention to the broth, simmering it for over ten hours with fruits, vegetables, and various Chinese herbs. The richness can also be adjusted according to personal taste.

The beef used in the red braised beef noodles comes from New Zealand and Australian short ribs, offering a tender texture and bursts of meaty aroma with every bite, perfectly complemented by the rich broth. Meanwhile, the clear stewed beef noodles feature slices of beef with just the right thickness, served in a hot pot-style presentation – the meat juice is sweet, and the broth is refreshingly light.
