Typhoon Bailu may form—double typhoons could strike simultaneously, with Fujiwhara effect not ruled out

The Central Weather Bureau issued a land typhoon warning at 11:30 AM, initially placing Taitung and Pingtung under alert. A low-pressure system in the South China Sea has the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression and may develop into this year’s sixth typhoon, “Bailu.”

The bureau stated that due to the peripheral circulation of Typhoon Danas, the northeastern region may experience showers with localized heavy rain possible. The northern, eastern, and southeastern regions will all have localized brief showers, while scattered brief showers may also occur in the mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan in the afternoon.

Typhoon Danas is gradually approaching eastern Taiwan, while the low-pressure system in the South China Sea is expected by the bureau to develop into a tropical depression or the sixth typhoon, “Bailu,” as early as today. As Typhoon Danas weakens, the two systems may influence each other, and the Fujiwhara effect cannot be ruled out.

After issuing the maritime typhoon warning, Coast Guard officers also issued corresponding advisories: do not engage in reckless acts that challenge your life limits by the sea during the typhoon period. Coast Guard personnel have the responsibility to advise evacuation and the authority to issue fines, but if sea conditions are poor, they may not be able to rescue you.
